RIP hairdryer... and your recommendations please.

The Old Faithful has bitten the dust. A Babyliss Trevor Sorbie edition which somehow managed to tame my frizzy-can’t-be-arsed-to-curl-properly hair with a sideshow of pretending-to-be-a-sponge and taking-an-hour-to-dry.

So. I need a powerful, lightweight (shit wrists) with two heat settings and a cold shot button. Preferably one that will arrive from amazon prime tomorrow.

Any recommendations please? 🙏

I have got a Parlux Superturbo 3200 Compact. £85 on Amazon prime. It’s four years old and great. I have got a lot of thick curly hair that I dry with a big round brush so I need a good hairdryer.

I would buy it again tomorrow if it broke.

FourEyesGood · 03/01/2020 14:52

I love my Parlux compact (it’s not especially compact, though). I bought it with a tax rebate around five years ago and it’s still going strong.

FourEyesGood · 03/01/2020 14:53

Oh, sorry - mine’s not very lightweight. But it does meet your other criteria.

TheBoxOfDelights · 03/01/2020 14:56

Mine is 490g (just looked it up), I am not sure how that compares with others.

EffYouSeeKaye · 03/01/2020 15:44

Parlux often comes up as a good make, I've looked at them before I think. Pricey but worth it maybe? I will weigh my current (deceased) one before burial (recycling) so I have a yardstick.

Parlux without a doubt .

EffYouSeeKaye · 03/01/2020 15:47

Well, she’s 600g so not that lightweight it seems!

BigusBumus · 03/01/2020 16:39

I have the Dyson one which although pricey, is very light and very powerful and dries my long curly hair in half the time my old one did.

Rosere · 03/01/2020 17:24

Tresemme. It's about 20quid and pretty light from argos.

FartnissEverbeans · 03/01/2020 19:53

Parlux is worth it. Mine has been going strong for about 8 years now! I bought it after a Mumsnetter recommended it.

It has everything you’re looking for. It takes my hair a very long time to dry (thick and porous - I can be there for twenty mins or more) and I never feel like it’s too heavy.

EffYouSeeKaye · 04/01/2020 13:06

Have gone for the parlux 3200 as found one on prime for £77. Bit more than I have spent on hairdryers previously but hopefully it will be worth it. Arriving today! Sadly I don’t need to wash my hair 😂 Will report back though. Thank you for all your helpful advice ⭐️

My old hairdryer didn't die.
It was murdered.

Self defence rollon - everyone knows hairdryers and hoovers are the natural enemies of puppies Wink

Eveting2019 · 04/01/2020 13:19

Yes, great decision with parlux. Makes my hair dry so much nicer than any other hairdryer, and has so much more oomf. I tried one at 13years old and have never gone back

Halsall · 04/01/2020 17:36

Good decision, OP! I had one, it eventually died (but only after years of faithful service), and I got a new, compact one for Christmas.

Therunecaster · 04/01/2020 17:42

I'd recommend a Dyson.

scrambledeggs01 · 04/01/2020 18:19

GHD dryer is amazing. They have them at my gym and I now hate using my cheap one as it makes such a difference using the GHD one !!!!!

EffYouSeeKaye · 04/01/2020 18:21

Oh Rollon!! I’d rather our dog ate the Sunday roast than did that to my hairdryer Shock

Parlux has arrived. It has two different nozzle attachments (which is brilliant in itself) and much lighter than the old one. Had a quick play with it. Seems quite powerful. Just need wet hair now but, as excited as I am, I am not that bothered that I am going to wash clean hair Grin Absolutely loathe washing / drying my hair as it is always such an effort.

I have the Diva 5000 dryer, I got mine from a hairdressing warehouse because I have a trade card. I've just bought my second one because I dropped my 7 year old one & broke the casing, it is the best dryer I have ever had, it days your hair quickly & has a cold shot to hold your style. TK maxx often have Diva brand products in stock, my new dryer cost £60 including VAT.

EffYouSeeKaye · 04/01/2020 19:07

Yep. Cold shot buttons are an absolute gem, for my hair at least. Adds softness and shine as well as maintaining the style better.

Also useful for heatwaves and hot flushes 😂

Quick update for anyone looking for a new hairdryer - I’ve used the parlux twice now and so far it’s been excellent. Very easy to use, light, three heat settings and cold shot all really effective. Love it!

It's so annoying that Curry's or somewhere doesn't have hairdryers you cdd can turn on to test in store.

Do any stores have hairdryers out?

BubblyWater · 10/01/2020 07:48

I have my Parlux since 2003 and it's still going strong.

QueenOfTheAndals · 10/01/2020 08:54

@itcamefrombeckyvardysaccount Yes, John Lewis usually does and bigger Boots stores.

alittlequinnie · 10/01/2020 13:52

I know you've already got your dryer but I just wanted to add a vote for the Dyson.

I know it's super expensive but my husband got me one for my birthday in October - omg it's amazing - it dries my hair in half the time of any other and it NEVER frizzes it - always shiny smooth no matter how quick or rough I dry it.

Also the only "true" cold shot button I have ever know.

The other thing I love about it is that it doesn't "leak" heat - when I used to use my old one I got really hot but the Dyson only seems to heat enough to dry the hair and my neck, face, etc doesn't get heated up too.

I don't work for them - honest!
