Dyson hair dryer... yay or nay?

StillMedusa · 03/01/2020 13:23

My lovely Mum gave me money for Xmas and birthday (tomorrow) and I am wondering whether to splash out and buy one. I have shoulder length hair and lots of it, naturally frizzy so like to dry it as smooth as I can to minimise the ghd use. My current hairdryer is old and could melt gold (slight exaggeration but I think it's overheating!)

Are they good?!

It changed my life 😍

lorettalemon · 03/01/2020 13:26

I have one and I'm very pleased with it. It is very good but I wouldn't say it's significantly better than some other more normal priced hairdryers that it's worth spending the money on unless the price isn't an issue for you

Brakebackcyclebot · 03/01/2020 13:27

My hairdresser bought them for his salon. They didn't last. He was really disappointed.

DickDewy · 03/01/2020 13:27

I love mine. I have a huge amount of hair and it cuts the drying time right down.

Jeleste · 03/01/2020 13:28

It doesnt dry my hair smoother, if thats what youre looking for. But before i wasnt able to grow my hair past shoulders because its very fine and curly and breaks off so easily. I would go to the hairdresser and 2 weeks later my ends look bad again from the heat (drying and straightening).
Since ive had the dyson blow dryer my hair is much healthier and now at bra strap length!

MoltenLasagne · 03/01/2020 13:29

Whilst I like mine I definitely don't love it enough to justify the price. My hair is frizzy but not thick so that may be the difference.

Parlux - I asked advice on here a couple of years ago now and while a dyson is amazing, the parlux does a superb job - hair less frizzy, definitely a good (luxury) buy at £110...Dyson is more than double the cost and not any better! Wait for a few more responses, but Parlux is definitely a good choice.

I'm fairly sure I have the 3200 with uk plug, and I also have an aliyon which has a continental plug. Both are brilliant.

KnucklesMcGinty · 03/01/2020 13:31

Nah. Waste of money. It's probably quicker than your old hairdryer, but I certainly didn't get any better results. I think I gave mine away.

MadisonAvenue · 03/01/2020 13:31

I like mine but I don't think it's that much better than the £25 Babyliss one I'd had before.
The advantages I see are that it's compact and due to the magnetic fixings, the nozzle doesn't fall off when it gets hot (which was a problem I had with my previous dryer).

Mine is amazing! Game changer. I have the Volume and Shape attachments and can blow dry my own hair to salon standards in 5 mins, with one hand!

A full head of curls takes 9 minutes and have also had loads of compliments on how healthy and shiny it looks!

Willow4987 · 03/01/2020 13:34

I love mine!! Has made it smoother and much easier to straighten

Murinae · 03/01/2020 13:37

I have the parlux 385 advance light and love it. Not sure the Dyson would be worth the extra money. Hair is definitely smoother and less frizzy with the parlux than my old hairdryer

You would be better off buying a professional ordinary hairdryer, mine is a Diva 5000, cost me £60, the last one I bought lasted me 7 years, I have just bought the same one again, i only replaced the one I had because i had dropped it & broke the casing, the motor & everything else are in perfect working order. I have bra strap length hair & often have extensions to thicken my hair, it dries mine from soaking wet to fully dry in 10 minutes, has nozzles to straighten or add body, a cold shot & isn't too heavy to hold. I could never justify paying £300 for a hairdryer. Look in TK maxx, they often sell Diva brand or ask your hairdresser if they would get you one from the warehouse they use.

Having just used a 'normal' hairdryer (Babylis I think) in a hotel for 2 weeks, I will never part with my Dyson. It halves the time, and uses half the heat, for my shoulder-length thick hair.

IloveJudgeJudy · 03/01/2020 15:11

I have a Dyson and it's been a game changer for me and my hair. My hair dries so much quicker and looks so much shinier that colleagues have remarked on it.

ZaraW · 03/01/2020 15:12

I have a Parlux and Dyson. I don't think the Dyson is worth the money. It's lighter than Parlux but gives the same results. I just got the Steam Pod 3 and love it. Hopefully it's kinder to my hair than the T3 straighteners I've been using for the last few years.

ClientListQueen · 03/01/2020 15:14

I like how light it is but I don't find it dries my hair significantly faster - however my hair does take 45-60 mins to get dry (and that's not completely dry!)

Elieza · 03/01/2020 15:15

Have a look on QVC UK as they have a sale on and dyson products.

Oh and you get to try it at home for 30 days and if you don’t like it you get a no quibble full refund (all you pay is p&p both ways.

So you can see what you think for the tenner or whatever it costs in postage.

pomegranatefizz · 04/01/2020 09:05

I adore my Dyson have had it since they came out and will replace it if it breaks. It dries my thick hair super quick but with so much less heat. In fact I've been using GHD dryers at the gym for the last couple of months and couldn't work out why my hairs started to look damaged - I've just connected the two! Will have to start taking my dyson with me!

BNV1 · 04/01/2020 18:06

You might want to consider this instead. www.boots.com/revlon-pro-collection-one-step-dryer-volumiser-10235019.

Ithinkwerealonenowtiffany · 04/01/2020 18:23

I have a huge mass of natural curly hair and tried it in a salon after having a wet cut. Twas no better than a £20 dryer I have from Argos! For me it’s down to the products i use, not the dryer.

Oldfail · 04/01/2020 19:50

I love my Dyson. Got it as a treat and just the fact its alot quieter makes it worth the money for me.

I watched a test on hairdryers and most run at the same decibels as a jet engine which damages your ears.

Re the comment from the hairdressers and them not lasting. I asked my hairdresser why they didn't use them after a trial from dyson and she said they were breaking but feedback from dyson was that they weren't built for commercial use and being used constantly all day. They havent yet developed a hard wearing dyson. She did say though for once a day general use they are great and she saw a quality difference in hair when using it on customers

Itsabeautifuldaytosavelives123 · 04/01/2020 21:13

I was seriously considering it but a friend's one has just stopped working. I just don't trust Dyson products enough (saying that I've just ordered the air wrap, so not sure whether I'll keep when it arrives)
