The ordinary or Superdrug naturally radiant recommendations please

Hi everyone,

I’m looking at changing my (currently very basic) skincare routine in the new year. I’ve heard good things on here about the ordinary and Superdrug naturally radiant but have no idea where to start. I have ‘normal’ if dull skin and I’d like a brighter, fresher complexion. I’m 36 and wear minimal makeup up. At the moment I use simple cleanser, exfoliator and ESPA (my mum buys me this!) moisturiser. Do any of you have recommendations?
Thanks in advance!

I use the whole range of naturally radiant. It’s so cheap you can basically try it all and not bother repurchasing anything you don’t like.

I particularly rate the glycolic peel, the radiance balm and the hot cloth cleanser.

CMOTDibbler · 31/12/2019 19:48

The Superdrug hot cloth cleanser, toner, and the 2 in 1 moisturiser and serum has really brightened my skin

Summerdays2014 · 31/12/2019 19:52

Thanks! When exactly do you use these products? Specifically the peel, balm and serum? Are they everyday things? Before after other things? Sorry for being totally clueless! I have ‘good’ skin in that I very rarely get spots, grease etc but it’s just a bit ‘flat!’
Appreciate all suggestions!

I use the balm like moisturiser if my skin feels like it needs it.

The peel is just like a watery gel you put on and leave on overnight (it dries very quickly). Then you wash your face as usual the next morning. I use it a couple of times a week.

Thank you PurpleDaisies

Should have said, my skin doesn’t respond well to loads moisturiser on it.

My regular routine is just wash face with either the complete or hot cloth cleanser in the morning using a konjac sponge (also Superdrug cheap). Then sometimes radiance balm.

At night, wash face again. I either use the glycolic peel or some moisturiser/serum, or nothing!

I use the whole range of naturally radiant and I can say hand on heart my skin hasnt looked better. It's not shiny but had a real glow and my make up applies so much better. Highly recommended.

I’m definitely going to give the Superdrug range a go then! As pp said the range is so cheap (and on buy one get one free atm!) I can try it all!
Does anyone have any recommendations for the ordinary?

The Ordinary can be quite overwhelming--I use the niacinamide, buffet and rosehip oil. I really rate them, particularly the niacinamide. I put it on at night before serums, oil and moisturiser.

Joloh · 01/01/2020 08:33

I have very fair skin, prone to redness, large hormonal spots, rarely dry. Knocking on 40.

I use:

Wash my face with a flannel and water then apply Niacinamide at night, sometimes followed by The Buffet
2-3 times a week at night use Lactic Acid 10% instead, followed by Natural Moisturising Factors (no buffet) if I remember
The Buffet in the morning after a shower.

I now use only water and a clean flannel or silicone face brush to wash my face. I initially had a Foreo Luna but tbh the £5 dupes on amazon are the same.

That's it. I don't use other face stuff and I don't wear makeup. My skin is in the best state of its life tbh. People compliment me on it, which I don't really know what to do with. If they ever release that SPF 50 sunscreen I will buy that as well but right now I don't use a sunscreen -- you're meant to with lactic acid but all sunscreen I've ever used gives me terrible spots so I'm holding out for the Ordinary.

ILookAtTheFloor · 01/01/2020 08:42

I've used the factor 30 Ordinary SPF, and unfortunately it leaves a terrible white cast. I did really like it as an SPF but I did need some foundation (the Ordinary serum foundation, which I've just remembered I also really rate!) as it does give you a ghostly look.

I use any cheapy broad spectrum SPF 50, five star UVA. Currently using the superdrug own brand stuff. I need to as I use prescription Tretinoin.

Just yesterday I picked up some of the vitamin E range from superdrug. I brought the serum, the radiance moisturiser, the leave on mask, the face scrub and the eyecream. My skin feels lovely and soft but only been using for two days so can't say how good it is. Very affordable though which is a big plus.

Ginfordinner · 01/01/2020 10:40

I'm a fan of the Superdrug Naturally Radiant range. An added bonus is that it is cruelty free.

HermioneWeasley · 01/01/2020 12:14

I haven’t tried the Superdrug one, but have got on really well with The Ordinary. Things that have helped reduce spots, shrink pores and brighten my skin are

Glycolic acid toner (every other day)
Niacinimide
Hylauronic acid

I’ve also tried their matrixyl and vit c but can’t see they are making any difference

Violetroselily · 01/01/2020 12:44

Another avid fan of Superdrug naturally radiant.

I use the foaming cleanser in the morning, then the toner and the 2 in 1 moisturiser/serum.

A couple of times a week I use the micro polish cleanser (maybe called something slightly different) and I use the brightening the balm under make up when I want to be a bit more glowey.

At night I use the brightening eye cream and the tub of night cream

The only thing I dont like is the tub of day cream moisturiser - it's a bit too heavy for me, so the serum is much better for me to use daily

fedup21 · 01/01/2020 12:48

The Superdrug range is excellent and very cheap. I like the hot cloth and cleanser, toner, serum and glycolic peel. It’s often on offer.

I tried a load of the Ordinary range last year (!) but found it expensive and it did nothing.

Ginfordinner · 01/01/2020 12:48

I have to say that I never notice any difference in my skin regardless of what product I use. However, I must be doing it right as a beauty therapist and HOC stylist have both told me that I have excellent skin (about the only part of me that is though Grin).

I think it is probably that I have always looked after it.

Summerdays2014 · 01/01/2020 15:37

Thanks everyone, can’t wait to try some!

It’s on BOGOF at the moment. Lots sold out online (possibly due to threads like these!).

Ha ha! The curse of Mumsnet - just like Delia - whenever she used something in her cooking it sold out everywhere!

ILookAtTheFloor · 02/01/2020 18:26

Haha yes, I've also noticed that if a Perfume Parlour thread gets posted, PP then take considerably longer to fulfil their orders, they post the turn around time on the website.

The power of MN!
