Silk pillowcase

I've been reading about the benefits of sleeping on a silk pillowcase for the reduction of skin wrinkles and hair static. Can anyone recommend them? Or a particular brand? I looked in John Lewis today and they're £45 per pillowcase which seems very expensive, but I was wondering if it was worth it? Has anyone found a decent one that's cheaper?

I bought two cheaper versions from Amazon, I wasn't that impressed and they both fell apart after about a year. I had read a lot about the benefits of silk pillow cases and did wonder whether I would have got better results from a more established retailer.

Thanks, that's what I'm a bit concerned about.

I got one from John Lewis for Christmas. Obviously I’ve only had it a couple of nights, but pleased with it so far. My hair felt much less frizzy when I washed it this morning. Can’t comment on longevity.

Definitely worth buying , just make sure you remove all make up before sleeping as you don’t want it to get messed up, and hand wash with Woolite or similar.

I would recommend satin pillowcases, my hair is shinier and in better condition, doesn’t tend to get as hot, and my hair style holds it shape better, I don’t have creases on my face in the mornings, I brought mine off Amazon, handwashed them cool initially, but now put them inside a cotton pillowcase and wash in the machine. Mine were around £10 for a pair.

Thanks all. I'll take a look on Amazon before I decide which ones to buy.

I have the john lewis mulberry pillowcase its lasted well and its lovely to sleep on. I suppose my hair is less messy in the morning.

BigButtons · 30/12/2019 21:55

I have silk pillow cases and have noticed no difference at all in my hair or sleeping crumpled skin .

PiedImperial · 30/12/2019 22:01

I've been using the John Lewis silk pillowcases for a few months now.

They feel nice to sleep on but I don't know that I've noticed much of a difference to my hair/skin. I suppose I haven't woken up with pillow-creases on my face, and my hair seems a little smoother (but I don't know if that is due to the pillowcase or not).

The JL pillowcase is quite nice thick silk. I've been chucking it into the washing machine on a delicates cycle, using wool/silk detergent, and it still looks as good as new.

We have one set of the JL ones and I have to say I’m grumpy when they are in the wash and I have to ‘endure’ cotton. My husband does all the washing so I assume they get chucked in with other white that don’t go on a hot wash. We’ve had them for maybe two years and they are still great.

I bought one from amazon that's silk on one side and cotton on the other (which stops it from sliding off the bed) and I just wash it at 30 in the machine. It's survived fine.

Drabarni · 31/12/2019 17:32

Brilliant, helps my hair and my rosacea has gone from my chest.
Goes in the wash with everything else.
My dh has HS and it has helped calm the effects from his face. Looking at sheets next but they don't seem cosy enough for winter.

DameXanaduBramble · 31/12/2019 17:33

I have 6 that i rotate from John Lewis. I love them !

Drabarni · 31/12/2019 17:35

Mine came from amazon 2 for a tenner we've had them for about 18 months, still as good as first day. The trick is to wash them regularly, even if not changing the rest of your bed.

MadisonMontgomery · 31/12/2019 18:03

I have had a few mulberry silk ones off Amazon - can’t say I have noticed any real difference in hair/skin, but they are so lovely to sleep on I couldn’t go back now! They don’t last quite as long as good cotton pillowcases, usually 2 years or so, I wash on the hand wash cycle on the washing machine with delicates washing liquid.

Thesuzle · 31/12/2019 18:07

They are. Brilliant, just dont let them get into a wash with Bio power or liquid

WwfLeopard · 31/12/2019 18:32

Great for hair, they are so easy to make and 100% silk isn’t that expensive online, I did a couple for less that £25

Offredismysister · 31/12/2019 18:38

Jasmine silk is the place, the pillowcases with a cotton underside are £16. I wouldn’t bother with a full silk as they slip & slide all over. Total game changer for my hair & no more pillow face.

Love this thread as I saw a review for some and they cost £90!

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 31/12/2019 21:38

bettyboo40 · 01/01/2020 00:50

Brilliant thanks all. I'm definitely going to invest in one!

I have the JL one, I like it in the summer, it’s cooler on the skin.

Lasted better than I expected.,
