Dark circles...

NamechangeoutedbyMIL · 30/12/2019 16:51

Okay so before I go and spend more money on the hunt for a miracle cream... Does such a thing exist??

I'm only 29 but have awful dark circles around my eyes. Literally like a racoon except not as cute.

Without make up, I look severely ill.

I get enough sleep, try and drink enough water.

So, are there any creams out there that will actually help or am I destined to be a raccoon face for life?

I too would love to know the answer to this.

Peachsploosh · 30/12/2019 17:17

Me too! I've always had them. I cut sugar out for a few weeks & that helped. I think it's mostly hereditary though.

superfandango · 30/12/2019 17:24

I'd like to know too - I've just turned 30 and have a good diet - lots of fruit and veg, lots of water, barely any sugar (genuinely) and get a decent amount of sleep. I've tried the Ordinary caffeine 5% solution + EGCG to no avail (which to be fair is extremely cheap so I wasn't really expecting miracles).

I'm using Urban Decay Stay Naked concealer which does a pretty good job of covering them up. I was going to try Charlotte Tilbury mini miracle (serum and concealer wand thingie) but after speaking to the woman on the makeup counter it sounded like it would more draw attention to the dark areas than make them blend in, if that makes sense.

Heismyopendoor · 30/12/2019 17:25

I think sometimes they are just hereditary. I have them and so do my kids. They get a ton of sleep, eat well, drink but two out of three of them have em. Ah well lol

Greenvalleymama · 30/12/2019 17:34

You need a yellow or orange colour correcting concealer. I use Collection Lasting Perfection in 'lemon' (under £5 from Superdrug) and it makes a huge difference.
I haven't found anything that actually reduces them, sorry!

nothingwittyhere · 30/12/2019 19:49

I don't think any eye cream can reduce dark circles, which are due to your blood/veins showing through the thinner skin around your eyes. I don't know if any product could thicken that skin - and I doubt such a product would be safe for home use because eyes are so sensitive. I can recommend eye creams that are tinted and so boost your concealer's coverage. Two I've used and liked are Olay Eyes Ultimate Eye Cream and L'Oreal Paris Age Perfect Golden Age Rosy Radiant Eye Cream.
Two good concealers for me are Maybelline Eraser and Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer.
Hope you find a solution Smile

BunnytheBlueWhale · 30/12/2019 20:05

As others have said it’s probably hereditary if you‘ve rules our lack of sleep, lack of water or v poor nutrition.

A peach, pink or orange corrector might help. I love the Armani one or Benefit Erase paste / brightening concealer.

For concealer I like the Bobbi Brown one and the Make Up Forever. People swear by the Tarte Shape Tape but Ive never tried it

Doobigetta · 30/12/2019 21:00

It’s as much to do with skintone and bone structure as anything else. I’ve had them since I was about eleven.

SusieMyerson · 30/12/2019 21:14

Yes the tarte shape tape is the best one that I've tried and believe me I've tried them all Sad I wish there was a miracle cream but there isn't (again I've tried loads and they just don't work) I always look better in the summer with a tan, they kind of blend in with my skin a bit more and don't look as bad. I've heard fillers are the only way to get rid but I'm too scared (and skint!) to try.

NamechangeoutedbyMIL · 30/12/2019 21:25

Ahhhh I suspected as much! You have all stopped me from spending a disgusting amount of money on creams that were promising the world, so thanks!

I think it must be hereditary, my mum says that my dad had then from his teen years as well.

Tarte tape might be worth a try though, I cna cover them up semi well with make up but still always visible.

I always look ill too and when i am ill look like death. So i use a good eye cream, keeps me moisturised but still black eyes. When i can be arsed i will use a light peach corrector as i have very pale skin (rimmel is good) and either revolution concealor or tarte shape tape, only a light touch if these or they crease and look horrid, no powder either.

managedmis · 31/12/2019 02:16

Fake tan makes them look better. Well, it makes you look less ill, IFYSWIM

Confused

I suffer from CFS/ME & I permanently look as if I have 2 black eyes, the best concealer I have found is the Aldi copy of Touch eclat by Dior, it comes in several shades & is only around £3, when it comes in I normally buy loads in 2-3 shades.

DramaAlpaca · 31/12/2019 03:37

My cousin has cut out wheat and her dark under-eye shadows have disappeared. It might be worth a try, it's certainly cheaper than expensive creams.

Taddda · 31/12/2019 03:44

Clinique do active cartridges in their dramatically different moisturising lotion now, I use the 'pores and tones' blue one, that with their moisturising eye surge, YSL Touche Eclat and smashbox highlighter, dark circles are pretty non existant-

No miracle cream I know of as yet but I'm looking (mines also very much fatigue, but I hope it helps?)

Untrained · 31/12/2019 04:22

I also have very dark circles under my eyes; they’ve always really bothered me and now I’m getting older the make up I use to hide them just creases in the wrinkles too! I enquired about fillers but even the plastic surgeon said they don’t work well enough on dark circles to justify the cost and risks involved.

willowmelangell · 31/12/2019 04:58

I can tell you about Nivea Q10 power. Anti-wrinkle+brightening Eye cream. 15ml in a small white tube.
I inherited dark circles( and have passed them on). I saw this Q10 on special offer and thought I'd give it a go. A small dab applied at night. After about 7 days the circles had lightened enough that I could actually see I had freckles under my eyes. I never knew this! The dark had always hidden them.
I did find that if I forgot to apply the cream the depth of darkness came back really quickly. I would say with regular use, the darkness was halved and that seems to be as best as I can get.
I couldn't say to the anti-wrinkle effect as I didn't have any to start with.
