2020 beauty goals

It’s that time of year where some of us think about New Year’s resolutions or generally take stock...

I wondered whether any of you have any beauty goals.

These are mine:

  • Use up what I have. I have started a blog and may track my progress on this or maybe track it here
  • Not buy any more products unless I need it or have nothing of that kind eg not buy a cleanser until I have used all of mine or not but mascara until I have used the ones I have.
  • Streamline my beauty routine. This doesn’t fully reconcile with trying to use things up but I spent a few days away and enjoyed a lighter make up look. I just used concealer under my eyes and on spots and then some mascara. I’d want more than that for daytime but liked the look of just concealer on my skin.
  • I would also like to sell or swap the items that I don’t plan to use (brand new) so they are not wasted

My main beauty goal is to have an evening routine.

I'm on lots of meds which make me very sleepy so I rarely bother to take off makeup, clean face or even get undressed!! It's really bad.

So I would like to aim to:

  1. Clean & floss my teeth at night (embarrassing to admit this doesn't often happen due to lack of energy.
  1. Remove eye makeup.
  1. Cleanse face - at the very least with wipes, prefer to use my cleansing lotion & toner.

If I can achieve these tings my next plan is to apply my eye cream, face serum & night cream.
Followed by foot cream & hand cream.

Wish me luck!!

BunnytheBlueWhale · 29/12/2019 13:05

Sounds good @LilyJade - good luck!

I would also like to take better care of myself which might help with using up products eg moisturising my body after a shower and using face makes once a week - that sort of thing

Wear makeup more often. I look and feel much better when I can be bothered.

BunnytheBlueWhale · 29/12/2019 14:38

I love wearing make up @RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie I find it so much fun but it does take time in a morning

I am thinking of getting up early though, not just for more getting ready time but also to have a proper breakfast etc

Sort my hair out and stop being so scruffy. At work I'm so well presented but at home I'm like a bag lady.

BunnytheBlueWhale · 29/12/2019 16:13

Oh me too @Lamentations I have house clothes that are as comfy as PJs but not PJs, typical jogging bottoms as t shirt from Gap and flip flops. I kind of think it’s ok when you’re at home but I think I need some smarter clothes as our office now has a causal dress code (but is still a professional office) but I feel too casual at times!

My main beauty goals for 2020 are;

I have recently stopped smoking, and next year would like to get acne scar treatment and I know they won’t do it if I’m a smoker due to skin healing. My skin is so so much better since I kicked the cigarettes, less grey and more glowy and healthy looking. I actually think that’s probably the best thing I’ve done for my skin (as well as all of the other really I,portmanteaus benefits of course) so I’m feeling very proud of myself!

To use my Liz Earle cleanse and polish every night and not just MICELLAR water because I’m too tired.

To make sure I give myself a little pedicure every week, nothing major or unrealistic, just tidying up my nails, some foot cream and maybe polish.

Keep on top of my lip and eyebrow waxing, eg; going to the salon for the wax and tint.

Pledge not to spend any more money on beauty products, I have an embarrassing amount of unopened skincare.

Lagartha · 29/12/2019 17:52

*important

BunnytheBlueWhale · 29/12/2019 17:54

@Sammi38 Good for you in giving up smoking! That can’t be easy but I bet it is doing you a lot of good! I’m with you on the no bit and top lip! I just jolene but don’t do it enough and am getting an embarrassing amount of chin hair these days! 🙈 Pedicure is a nice idea - I might try to do that too!

FartnissEverbeans · 29/12/2019 18:04

I’m trying to do a bit at a time!

  • Get a proper skincare routine. I’ve started using my knockoff Clarisonic twice a day and Cetaphil/micellar water - even just that has made a huge difference in just a few days. I’ve researched The Ordinary and selected some products.
  • Toes need to be less gross. I run a lot and this results in manky toenails that regularly fall off. I’ve started to wear nail polish, mainly to hide the bruised blood from my last race - my big toenails are basically black!
  • I’m going to get my hair cut regularly, not just the annual harvest
BunnytheBlueWhale · 29/12/2019 18:09

@FartnissEverbeans I’m with you on the haircut too! I only get mine done about one a year, sometimes twice, but it looks so much better after it’s been cut!

Sorry this isn’t a v glam issue but I need to keep up with my hard skin on my feet too. I leave it until I they feel really dry and rough but it would probably be better to just do them weekly so it doesn’t build up!

Sssneks · 29/12/2019 18:17

Love this thread!

I'm aiming to stick with the Curly Girl method instead of giving up like the last 5 times (and maybe get a deva cut).

Moisturise more.

Plan my outfits the night before and also accessorise better.

LilyJade · 29/12/2019 18:23

Been to the gym today & calorie counted.
Shocked to find I now weigh 13st1lb.
I'm aiming to be down near 12st by 3rd week of jan.

BunnytheBlueWhale · 29/12/2019 18:40

I have very curly hair @Sssneks but have never tried the CG method. I think I’m scared of not washing my hair! But I’m sure it would do me some good. I try to stick with sulphate free shampoo but that’s it 😬

That’s about a stone in 3-4 weeks @LilyJade but some of it might just be from a bit of Christmas excess so good luck! I’d like to lose at least half a stone but maybe a stone.

If I cut out all the chocolate etc then I will probably easily lose it - she says 🙄

OP posts:
Sssneks · 29/12/2019 18:45

Bunny so many of my friends have had great results from it. It's really hit and miss for me. I ditched shampoo and started co-washing with a cleansing conditioner and started using leave in conditioner and gel. It definitely helps with curl definition and frizz but depending on how it dries, sometimes it looks amazing and other times it goes weird and sticky and clumpy and asymmetrical.

I'm still figuring it out!

BunnytheBlueWhale · 29/12/2019 18:53

I think with curly hair, generally, it is a bit hit and miss as to how it will turn out?! I have actually had good results by following ManesbyMell on Youtube. She is a hairdresser with very curly hair and her sister has curly hair too, slightly different type and length etc, and they do videos on what they do. One thing they do that is very different is they comb through their wet hair with a denman brush before stying and if your is still wet it gives really good results - defines curls but even more “tidy” because they’re not all messed up and tangled. I’m still learning too and finding what works best for me. I find diffusing helps with volume. For me, my biggest challenge is second or third day hair. I try to wash my hair after 2-3 days but it only looks good on day 1 and after that looks like a frizzy mess, despite using a satin pillowcase or even a satin hair bonnet! I have seen great results on YouTube with the CG method so I am tempted to try it but it’s not something you can just do for a week really...

OP posts:
Sssneks · 29/12/2019 19:53

I also get great results with a diffuser but the CG method is meant to involve ditching heat, so I've been trying not to use the hairdryer. Maybe I'll just go back to using the diffuser on a low setting instead of leaving my hair's fate to the curly gods.

BunnytheBlueWhale · 29/12/2019 19:57

@Sssneks I’ve got the Dyson hairdryer and I (perhaps wrongly) tell myself it isn’t as damaging as a “normal” dryer. My hair is flat on top without it. BUT I just bought a teasing comb / Afro comb on Amazon and that helps to give some volume without heat.

oobedobe · 29/12/2019 23:39

Keep up with my new hair routine. After a lifetime of airdrying (and having no hairskills what so ever) and not really being happy with my wavy/frizzy hair, I have been blowdrying with the Revlon One Step Volumizer Brush thingy for about 3 months and been feeling MUCH happier with my hair.

I have quite thick hair and only need to wash/blow-dry twice a week, so hopefully it won't get overly damaged.

For Christmas I got a 3 in 1 tool (Kristen Ess) that I can use to either straighten or add a few waves when my hair gets a bit messy. Loving that also.

sweetkitty · 29/12/2019 23:48

@LilyJade I am like you taking medication and I’m so tired at night I often just crash out in my make up Blush so I want to

  1. have a good evening routine
  2. try some retinoids from the Ordinary
  3. drunk more water

That’s a start

YearofMisAdventure · 30/12/2019 00:00

Mine is to have a proper cleansing routine. I like the idea of massaging an oil every night. I would like to try the Ordinary range though it is the rosehip oil I am most interested in.

Brush my hair twice a day and style it.

Use a body brush and moisturise daily.

I bought a deep moisturiser for the feet, use that and not have cracked heels all summer.

I would also like to try Hard Water Shampoo. Also get another charcoal facemask as the tester I had was amazing. Maybe try a jade roller as people seem to rave about them.

Maybe try marine collagen supplements. I can't remember why but they are in my amazon basket!

BunnytheBlueWhale · 30/12/2019 00:35

@oobedobe I had a Remington spinning brush dryer tool which I loved when I used to blow dry my hair straight more. I told all my friends it was like a salon blow dry at home!

@sweetkitty I think all we need is a start as we can’t change everything at once. Water is a good one!

Also for removing make up have you heard of a Make Up Eraser? That’s just one brand name but it’s like a microfibre cloth that removes make up with just water so fuss free.

@YearofMisadventurr Dry body brushing and moisturising more is on my list too. I have lost mine so need to pick up another one. I like the one from the Body Shop. I’m curious about had rollers too.

I have bought a micro- needle roller and plan to try that so maybe in 2020 I’ll have perfect skin 😂

Mine is also to use up what I have. After a few years of beauty box subscriptions I've ended up with a load of moisturisers/make up to last me a life time. I'm also trying to be more eco friendly and ditch the wipes and use reusable make up remover pads. I got some for Bamboo ones for Christmas that I'm really happy with (haven't tried washing them yet so we'll see how that goes).

I also need to take better care of my hair. I've been having my hair bleached for years and it's now absolutely frazzled and resembles a bale of hay 😩 in the process of changing to a darker shade of blonde to see if there is any chance my locks can recover.

Then it's just the same ones that I try stick to every year but never quite manage.. sleep more, eat healthy, drink more water, exercise more.. maybe 2020 is the year Grin

BunnytheBlueWhale · 30/12/2019 09:45

@101Pizzaqueen I have lots of rubbish from beauty boxes and advent calendars too. Looking back, the beauty boxes were a bit of a waste for me. I want to try not to use wipes as well. It’s interesting to know the bamboo ones work for you. I’ve got a make up eraser which is good but I feel like I need a few so I’m not using the same one night after night!

I also want to eat healthy, exercise more and get more sleep too obvs Grin I have high hopes for 2020!

For makeup removal, cleansing i recommend these wash in machine after couple of uses.

I want to use up all my samples, advent goods and only repurchase what i love
