Foundation for 19 year old

Hi there. Promised my DD aged 19 some new foundation for her birthday.

Her skin is quite spotty at the moment so she's very sensitive about it and would like a high coverage.

I'm willing to go high end.. we're off out shopping soon and haven't a clue which counters to go to. If anyone has any suggestions I'd be very grateful.

MAC is good - high coverage options. Alternatively Urban Decay?

I still use MAC but think it appeals to teens - and Urban Decay is in that demographic but has good formulations.

Thank you so much. That's a good starting point for us.

Bare Minerals is really good for problematic skin.

Estee Lauder double wear is the best coverage but she must ensure she takes it off well at night, religiously. Clarins Everlasting foundation is also very very good and the one I would buy. Vichy Dermablend is also a good one and cheaper and specifically made for problem skin and the one I would start off with for her. Opal is the lightest shade which you may want to mix with nude. They make an excellent loose powder to go with it.
So the best thing for that is a balm to get rid of the make up and a second cleanser to clean her skin my DD.

Such as Clinique TTDO (Take the day off) followed by Neutrogena visibly clear spot proofing face wash.

The best thing really which is what my DD does is apply the balm, jump in the shower to wash it off with a clean flannel and wash her hair (the cause of her forehead spots) follwed by the Neutrogena.

My DS who had terrible forehead spots, showers every night and washes his hair, washes his face with the neutrogena and a clean flannel and he now has much clearer skin.

They also both have a tub of Neutrogena Clearasil pads which they apply after if they want to, to keep the spots at bay.

Bareminerals and Paula’s Choice skincare. I wish it had existed when I was 19

Large Boots stores, Debenhams and John Lewis all have counters of several brands; Estee Lauder, Benefit, Clinique, Dior, Clarins etc. Have a good play with the testers they have out, I always find the staff to be very knowledgeable and helpful.

Possibly look at some salicylic/lactic/glycolic acid type preparation along with a good moisturiser. Deal with the skin rather than just cover it up. Bad skin covered with heavy coverage foundation is not attractive.

Thank you for all the replies.

She does use glycolic and salicylic and has a good moisturiser and has a good skincare regime.

She doesn't use foundation often but just wanted something to cover up the worst of it when she goes on a night out.

We ended up at the smash box counter where she got a foundation she was really happy with and a primer which seems to have helped a lot too.

And thank you @tantrictwist for the cleansing advice.

Pleased to hear she has solved it OP. If it's of interest primark do a very good double wear dupe that is £5, something she could try if on a budget or as an alternative.

Using glycolic and salicylic acid daily defintely cause me breakouts so if she is still getting new spots with her regime I'd consider tweaking it or visiting the GP for a dermatologist referral. The pill did wonders for my skin (obviously that is entirely her own decision and has various considerations that go with it etc)

Definitely also agree that with any full coverage makeup she will be much better off double cleansing with something gentle but effective or it may cause breakouts.
