StylPro brush cleaner - should I get it?

I’ve been curious about the StylPro for a while and I’m tempted to get it if I can find a good deal in the sales.

Has anyone tried it?

My concerns are:

  • Does it really leave your brushes fully dry?
  • Does a residue of the soap stay on the brush (since you don’t really rinse it) and irritate the skin?

I have read more reviews and now thinking I won’t get it but have come across brush drying trees which seem tempting. I often just put my brushes on top of the radiator but not sure if that’s good for them 😬

I have it and like it, but I don't use it alone - I clean my brushes with a silicon mat first then use it to dry. It would be fine solo if I washed my brushes more but I'm lazy

ReeRi · 28/12/2019 20:15

@StatisticallyChallenged That’s a good idea. What puts me off is worrying it doesn’t get clean properly. I clean my brushes once a weak but it’s the drying that annoys me.

Once a week would probably be fine on its own - maybe with the exception of foundation or concealer brushes (mine tend to be much harder to clean). Sigma do a good cleaning mat which I just use with baby shampoo to clean the tougher ones first. It's nice not having to wait days for them to dry!

ReeRi · 28/12/2019 20:34

@StatisticallyChallenged Are you saying you don’t think the StylPro handles quite dirty brushes?

I’ve got the real techniques cleaning mat / mitt and I like that but it does take me a while to clean my brushes. It’s rinsing out all of the soap. I use baby shampoo or any other gentle shampoo I have lying around (I have lots of stuff to use up)

I understand that brush hygiene matters, but do you really need another gizmo? Clean your brushes with mild shampoo in a cheap artist's palette, rinse thoroughly and put them on top of a tea towel on a radiator to dry. Quick spray with Serozinc if you are really determined to eliminate any microbes. Job done.

ReeRi · 28/12/2019 21:17

I’m not sure if I need another gadget @XingMing Thats what I’m trying to figure out. What is Serozinc? I find it difficult to dry my brushes so I’m thinking about one of the drying trees / racks I’d the StylPro is not good for washing

I didn't find it fully cleaned foundation or concealer unless it was done every couple of days

I have 4 cats who run away with brushes, the stylpro was cheaper than replacing those stolen while drying. Also useful when you want to wear pink eyeshadow and all your brushes are dirty and dark!

ReeRi · 28/12/2019 22:10

@StatisticallyChallenged Yes I can really see the advantage of almost instantly dry brushes!

Xeroxinc is an LRP spray that's a mix of zinc and something similar to peroxide... it kills germs.

ReeRi · 28/12/2019 23:30

I don’t know what LRP is either.

I’ve got ispropanol which is 99.9% alcohol or something. I use that between washes but I don’t think it’s necessary just after a wash in hot soapy water.

I have it and it's amazing. Dries with no residue. Brushes look like new. I just pour some into a tiny Tupperware box and move the brush around, clean in seconds, it's like magic

ReeRi · 29/12/2019 11:13

@DontFundHate Are you talking about LRP or the StylPro?

Stylpro

jamburglar · 29/12/2019 13:13

I honestly think it's excellent. I got one half price earlier this year - wouldn't pay full price for it - but it really does clean and dry brushes in seconds. My only gripe it it doesn't work with double ended brushes, obviously due to the fitting used to hold the brushes, but other than that I think it's fantastic.

XingMing · 29/12/2019 13:17

LRP is La Roche-Posay, a French skin care range.

BunnytheBlueWhale · 29/12/2019 13:23

@jamburglar I don’t have many double ended brushes so that’s not an issue for me

I might watch some YouTube videos on it

Destinesia · 29/12/2019 15:03

I have it, it's really good, brushes come out about 90% dry.

I clean my brushes first in an eggcup of micellar water, then use the stylpro with water to rinse, then spin to dry. You could use micellar water with the stylpro but I find I use less if i use an eggcup.

BunnytheBlueWhale · 29/12/2019 15:17

That sounds sensible @Destinesia but I’m surprised you say it only gets brushes 90% dry. That’s exactly the info I am after as I have seen the demo on QVC and they say it is completely dry and ready to use!

StatisticallyChallenged · 29/12/2019 15:21

I'd agree they're not 100% dry although I find them dry enough to use.
