How to get my hair to look good throughout the day?

I work in an office with a lot of very sleek women and want to up my game as I look like I've just stomped in from being out in the fields overnight. Being several inches shorter than most of my colleagues doesn't help but I can't do much about that! Gel manicures just destroy my nails so that is out. Make up I'm getting better at. Hair is something I feel I can work on.
I wash and dry my hair every morning (I must toss and turn a lot or something at night as my hair is always sticking in about 900 directions when I wake up). Although I am sure I dry my hair in exactly the same way every morning, there is no consistency in how it ends up. Most mornings I then run the straighteners over it but that only seems to last as long as it takes to get into the car. By the time I get to work 40 minutes later, I look as though I've been standing on a cliff top in a gale.
What can I do? Hair is below shoulders, layered, has a bit of a wave (with one side having more of a wave than the other), frizzes at a hint of moisture. I wear it loose most days as I think it suits me better. I do fiddle with it quite a lot which probably doesn't help.
I used to use frizz ease serum but then noticed i had more spots when I used that - although that could have been coincidence. I've tried hair spray but that doesn't seem to have any effect. I don't really know anything about products and just don't know where to start.
Any hints would be appreciated. Thanks.

Get a Brazilian blowdry amazing for getting rid of the frizz. Also be yourself and be incredible at your job and no one will care what you look like x

I solved this by making sure my hair was fully 100% dry before straightening, you'd be surprised the difference it makes and how easily it can feel dry when it's still hot from blowdeying but isn't really.

Use a good conditioner every so often and brush your hair during the day. Mine looks 100 times better and glossier after a brush throughh with a bristled brush and a flick upside down and a rub of the roots in the ladies to get the volume back. No products required really!

Mines grown a lot recently, and I carry a hat at all times so that if it's even slightly damp outside, it doesn't get wet. I also put it up with a clip of in a ponytail while I'm traveling, so it doesn't ge t windswept.

I have similar hair issues and I find letting it dry naturally is the answer for less frizz.

ursuslemonade · 28/12/2019 02:06

Do you really need to wash your hair every day?

I have been using colour wow dream coat and it's been a revelation so far. My hair is fine and very prone to frizz. I can appreciate your hair frustrations!

Only used once and it lasts 3 to 4 washes. You wash your hair, then it needs to be heat activated. It seems to seal in the moisture in a way that other products don't for me. I need to dry and then straighten for it to work but I would do that anyway. My hair isn't frizzy, glossier, but perhaps a less voluminous but not hugely.

I gave the travel size a go first because it's expensive- but I will definitely be buying the full size if I continue to get these results.

How long is your hair and what kind of texture?
Re nails, gel nails also ruin mine but I recommend Rimmel 60 second nail varnish, it's so good and lasts well and is cheap as chips. People often ask if I have gel nails when I have that on. You could redo them every few days and look super chic!

My hair is naturally wavy/curly and tends to frizz. I wouldn't dream of washing it every day. And I would never do it in the morning as it would be damp all day.

I wash mine about twice a week in the evening, rub in a very small amount of serum - a few drops of Moroccan Oil is my favourite, lasts for ever - let it air dry, or gently dry with a hairdryer. At about 80% dry I straighten, (Babyliss straighteners, nothing fancy) using a brush in the other hand as I would for blow drying, lifting and turning the section of hair from underneath, and letting it cool. I don't dry it stick straight, so it still has some body.

It lasts me fine between washes that way.

You need a good deep conditioner if you straighten, and a hot temperature.

I use;
Superdrug Argan oil pre shampoo elasticizer 2 x a week.
Waitrose normal shampoo
Tesco coconut conditioner
Then a bit of Superdrug castor oil leave in conditioner, not too much.
Then Tesco serum in the red bottle on the lengths
Then lee Stafford hot iron spray.

I’ve got the kipozi wide plate straighteners off amazon, set to 215c & my hair holds its style then.

I started to notice frizz setting in at 36 so I think it’s an age thing.

It sounds like I need to stop washing my hair every day and do it in the evening rather than the morning. I'll give it a go over the next few days and see what happens. I never feel fully awake without blasting my head under the shower but I'm sure I'll get used to it.

Batiste it to freshen it up at the roots.
