80th birthday gift advice.

Hi there,

I'm hoping for a little bit of advice. My mother turns 80 in a couple of months and I've been saving for over a year in order to take her on a trip of a lifetime. She never had the money when I was a child in order for us to have holidays and this will be the first one either of us has actually gone on.

I want to get a token gift to give her while on holiday for her birthday but she's notoriously hard to buy for as she is so used to doing without that she never wants anything.

I've found a necklace by Thomas Sabo that she and I both like, it's expensive at £160 sale price, normal price pushing £300. Only issue is, it's sterling silver and gold plated. As it's such a special birthday and I really want to get her something that will last, I was wondering if anyone has had anything gold plated from Thomas Sabo and if it's held up over time.

Failing that, any advice on a special present for someone who just never wants anything would be welcomed.

Thank you!!

Gifts like these are really difficult to buy but I tend to think that a replacement/ better version of something she has worn regularly for a long time is a good idea. I have a pearl necklace with a large silver loop in it that doubles as a clasp and a hanger for reading glasses that I use a lot. The pearls are not great quality but always knowing where your specs/sunnies are put is good. Mine came from la Loop and was bought overseas, but there are probably others. Hope this was a helpful idea.

Obvs depends on taste but if I was having a special birthday then I’d want a piece of jewellery from this lady and I like the idea that it’s a bit more unusual www.raunihigson.co.uk/shop-jewellery-2/

Or maybe notonthrhighstreet might have some bespoke options?

If she likes it, then it is worth every penny imo. Why risk spending money on something that she might not like, if there is something you know that she would?

I think you sound like a wonderful daughter.
