Inverted Triangle fashion.

Anyone else an inverted triangle?

Seems to be a rare shape and very hard to shop for let alone find flattering clothes for especially during Autumn/Winter when all trousers and shirts are dark colours.

I’m obviously looking to use the sales and anyone’s inspiration and ideas to fill gaps in my wardrobe.

I will confess I’m not a capsule wardrobe fan. I like clothes and like having a selection. But since my style analysis I have such a small wardrobe and am finding it boring and a bit deflating that I’m wearing the same few clothes over and over again.

I have made a Pinterest board but as usual with Pinterest you cannot find any of the clothes to actually buy them.

I'm one. I don't do dark trousers with a light top, but will do dark top with patterned or lighter trs/skirt.
Don't find it difficult, but some shops don't do clothes that suit me. The cold shoulder/bardot look did nothing for me, and neither did smocks or tucks.
I have shortish legs so the ankle grazers are out

Tailored or body skimming tops, dresses and jackets help. I avoid knitwear as they tend to add bulk.

Thanks for replying mike. Where are you buying your lighter trousers and skirts?

Do you have pictures of your items? I’m really struggling.

I have found a couple of nice dresses from M&Co but that’s all.

I usually wear straight or skinny jeans, but I love a pinafore - mango, topshop, even new look are fine. Skirts tend to be above knee and straightish - Tu, Boden, Zara, M&S, H&M etc. I like patterns and checks - no bum or hips so can add bulk. Even kilt types are ok.
Straightish dresses are ok but need some fit or they hang off my bosom. A lines look wrong on me.

M&Co is ok if you are careful - they can be a bit mumsy.
Tu is great - decent quality and good prices -and you can get some real finds.
Pricier end of high street is ok - Hobbs, Mint Velvet, Jigsaw. I haven't bought anything in Next for years and Monsoon doesn't suit me.

I buy a lot 2nd hand (charity shops & ebay). Boden is not much liked on here but I quite like their stuff. Nomad seems ok too for tunic styles.

Chest logos are out.

Look for celebrities with an inverted triangle shape. Princess Diana was one, and when she changed to more fitted styles she looked a lot more stylish. Her budget was probably a bit more generous that mine.

Things that don't work for me include fluffy roll necks, combat trousers, horizontal stripe tops, boxy anything, puff sleeves.

RhythimIsRhythim · 26/12/2019 18:35

A-line skirts, skater dresses, harem and balloon leg trousers, dropped waists with frill skirt, peplums, raglan sleeves, halter necks.

lindyloo57 · 26/12/2019 19:25

I am this shape, everything mikeuniformmike said is correct, I think combat trouser are fine as they balance the shoulders out. I don't wear raglan or batwing tops, I feel it makes my shoulders look huge I prefer something fitted.

Plain or darker top and patterned or lighter bottoms. No high necklines or shoulder pads, careful where sleeves hit if they're short. I like a cropped wide leg or slim fit 7/8 trouser (I'm tall). Skirts and dresses either properly short or midi length.

Thanks everyone. I will write all this great info down and try to follow it when browsing online. It’s just a bit harder putting it into practice. Nothing seems quite ‘right’ at the moment.

Agree with no horizontal stripes or raglan sleeves, especially if you're busty.

I'm this shape and find it difficult finding clothes to suit me, there are so many high neck tops around, v necks don't seem to be very popular unfortunately!

Gerbi1 · 27/12/2019 22:10

I love this thread. It’s just what I need.

I find more fitted dresses suit me (pencil instead of floaty etc). Same with skirts - pencil instead of skater etc. Midi seams ok.

Cropped trousers and a jumper look fine. I try not to wear high necks. I hate polo necks and if I wear a crew neck i wear a scarf with it.
If I wear T-shirt’s I wear scoop or v necked. Usually with a scarf or necklace.

Things like bat wing or roll sleeves are a disaster on me.

I love Aline and tunic dresses on everybody else except me. I think tea dresses are ok.

I find Sainsbury’s or m and s skinny or straight jeans are really good. For tops I like Hobbs, phase 8, Boden (all usually from charity shops)

lindyloo57 · 28/12/2019 10:40

See that's strange as pencil skirts I think make shoulders look wider a bit like a ice cream cone, I would think more skater, floaty, and boot cut jeans rather than skinny, I do love my skinny though.
