Yasmin pill...

Has anyone had any good experiences of the pill Yasmin? I’ve been prescribed it to hopefully curb my oily skin and also what I think is hormonal hair loss. Just wondering if anyone has been on it and if it was any good?

I was on it and my skin was perfect. Moved GPs and they said i was too old for it and refused to prescribe it and I now suffer from terrible skin.

Loop3x5 · 26/12/2019 09:48

I'm currently on it. It works ok-pretty well for my skin. But I was moved onto it from Dianette which fully sorted my skin out, Yasmin hasn't kept it at Dianette level, but still nowhere near as bad as before.

Pangur2 · 26/12/2019 09:50

@Plump82 you can just buy it yourself from Superdrug, that's what I do. Yasmin is quite expensive so I think they look for reasons to not prescribe it!
It's been great for my skin as well.

Fluffycloudland77 · 26/12/2019 10:07

@Plump82

Please see your gp about your skin, I have hormone mediated acne from pcos. The hospital prescribed roaccutane & it’s life changing.

Best drug ever.

Sarahlouiseis33 · 26/12/2019 10:08

@Plump82 - did it help with the oiliness of your skin?

I've just stared taking this in the hope it will help with my acne. Only been a couple of weeks so far so can't really say, I currently have some spots but they're certainly not as bad as they have been in the past. I'm feeling hopeful.

Sarahlouiseis33 · 26/12/2019 10:23

@theSnuffster - have you had any side effects? I’ve been on it just over a week so far and I’m so tired! Literally wiped out!

I was on it for years and loved it - like you primarily for hormone regulation. My not regular GP persuaded me to try a lower dose version called rigavidon when I went for my renewal and it was horrendous - lasted one cycle.

My normal GP had now prescribed Lunette which she promises is the same as Yasmin but cheaper for the NHS.

I’m not currently taking anything to see how I get on as it has been years since I had a break

ouch321 · 26/12/2019 10:40

I used it before being moved to another pill.
I had deep under the skin cystic acne normally on the chin which no pill ever killed off.
Roac worked tho. Only 3-4 months on a low dose but it worked.

gwilt · 26/12/2019 11:05

Was on it for years.
Absolutely loved it.

blancheduboiss · 26/12/2019 11:19

I’m currently on it and it is fantastic for my skin.

TableNiner · 26/12/2019 11:36

I took it for years and it's good for regulating sebum and therefore reducing spots but I was still pretty oily. The only thing I've found to reduce my oil is ageing Grin

AnnaMagnani · 26/12/2019 11:38

I took it years back. Cannot remember it made the slightest difference to my skin and then gave it up in a DVT scare. Sorry.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 26/12/2019 11:39

I've been on it since 2013 after had ds.Brilliant, never get spots.

Fairylea · 26/12/2019 11:40

I was on it for 15 years and loved it.

cptartapp · 26/12/2019 11:57

You can take a combined pill like Yasmin up to the age of 50, unless there are other contraindications. Age alone isn't one.

dontgobaconmyheart · 26/12/2019 12:56

Yes I take it, mixed reviews though. I think it affects my mood and anxiety and sex drive and would rather not be on it of I'm honest.

On a plus, it has reduced what was acne, down to the odd few spots (normal skin I suppose) - took a break from it and the acne came back. Equally I suffer with polycystic ovaries (though not pcos) and being on the pill prevents this -again they came back when I stopped, went a few months after restarting.

ploughingthrough · 26/12/2019 13:04

I take it have been 4 months. I used to take Cilest but moved abroad and they don't stock so Yasmin was apparently closest. I'm not getting on that well with it - eg I'm 6 pills from end of pack and my chin is oily and spotty and my boobs absolutely kill. I'm going to ask for something else as I feel pretty crappy on this. I'm 34 if it helps

Pangur2 · 26/12/2019 14:03

Ooh, another thing that helps is skipping the gap. I almost never have periods as I realised I was only getting cystic spots during the gap/ fake period. It came out last year that they only added the gap to appease the pope back in the 60s/ 70s; you don't actually need to have a "period" (it's not a real period anyway.) So yeah, Yasmin and no pill free week totally sorted my skin out.

Sarahlouiseis33 · 26/12/2019 18:15

@Plump82 @Pangur2 @HermioneWeasley @Fairylea @PrincessHoneysuckle @blancheduboiss - I don’t have spots when not on the pill but my skin has become oilier, did it help any of you with oily skin?

OP posts:
Sarahlouiseis33 · 26/12/2019 18:16

@theSnuffster - have you noticed your skin is less oily so far?

OP posts:
theSnuffster · 26/12/2019 21:08

Yes I think it does seem a little better!

bingowingsmcgee · 26/12/2019 21:32

My daughter takes it for cystic acne and bacne. She has beautiful clear skin on it, and if she forgets to renew her prescription she breaks out in volcanoes just like before. She swears by it.

TrixchangeK · 26/12/2019 21:35

I found it good for my skin, not as good as Dianette on that front (but Dianette gave me horrendous raging mood swings)
