back to work (sob sob) need clothing inspiration

Back to work soon, and can't fit into old work clothes so need to buy new ones. I usually wear suits, with plainish t-shirt type tops, shirts etc, but also some separates e.g.trousers/tops/skirts (only with long boots in winter). Need some inspiration though, as been living in comfy clothes for 8 months!
Anyway, size 16/18 with awful post c-section tummy crisis - what can I get and where to go? I seem to only know baby shops these days.......
PS am 35

Im back at work the week after next and got loads of bargain tops in matalan today - quite smart/tidy looking but cheap at the same time.

Hideehi · 25/08/2007 22:15

i've just bought loads from next, it's all machine washable and not too expensive.

I also got a couple of p0airs of trousers from Dorothy Perkins. I need a nice jacket now though.

thanks for these - don't mind too much about cost as feel I need to invest in some nice pieces that will last me. Just need some ideas really. A sort of 'capsule' wardrobe I think.

Well I went for the basic black suit in my "right" shapes according to Gok, I'm going to buy three pairs of trousers to one jacket.
I also bought a A line skirt, doesn't match but would work.
I'm going to invest in 5 wrap shirts from Charles Twyrit and then some wrap dresses and knee length boots and that's me done.
I've got some cashmere V neck jumpers for variety but really that should do me 5 days a week I think.
My office is very casual but I don't feel I'm at work unless i've made an effort.

Forgot to mention Hobbs had some lovely pieces this season no doubt the winter collection be just as nice, I just can't justify it.

Gemy · 26/08/2007 20:33

There does seem to be lots of lovely A/W stuff out there, agree that Hobbs usuall y always has something, as does Jigsaw (who I think does autumn and winter much better than spring/summer!)

How about some of those higher waisted wide-leg trousers that seem to be around? May cinch you in in the right place and look lovely with some round-toed chunky healed shoes. However, I appreciate the high-waisted look is not to everyone's taste.

Or, below knee (with as-high-as-you-can-get-it-waist) skirt, silk camisole, light fabric wrapover top (again waist cinching) but not too clingy in beautiful colours like greens, reds, blues (not black in you can help it)

Or very plain bootleg trousers with plain scoop neck top/square neck teamed with a fantastic scarf (maybe metalic?) draped loosely around neck.

Thanks for all these tips - Hideehi, I went on the CT website after seeing your post and bought a dress and a coat I have no self control! But they are lovely!
Gemy, am already planning to buy some shoes as you described, as really like that look. The high waisted look is not for me, but am on the hunt for nice wrap over tops. Looked on Sunday, but not much around that I could see - only had a quick shop though, so looking properly on Wed (minus DS!)
Thanks again!
