Help me repair my poor face!

I have a revolting cold, and look disgusting. A couple of big spots, my nose is red, sore, scabby, and flaky, my lips are dry, and my skin is dehydrated and grey. All in all, a delight. I have done a sheet mask, but is there anything that can help my nose? I keep putting facial oil round it, but as soon as I do I sneeze!

Keep putting Vaseline around your nose and leave it in overnight. It somehow takes the red out of your skin.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 24/12/2019 21:35

I have Vaseline, thank you. I wondered if it would add spots to my scabs, but I honestly don’t think I could look any worse.

I put chapstick on my lips, above them, and also over my nose to try and protect it from the hankies rubbing it continually and it worked for me. The Vaseline stuff in the chapstick protects it and seals the moisture in I think.
Hope you’re feeling better soon.

No suggestions to help heal your nose apart from moisturising well, but to prevent it happening with another cold I'd suggest using baby wipes instead of normal, dry tissues. They do the same job but are much more gentle on the skin.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 24/12/2019 21:47

Such a good idea about babywipes! I have the balsam tissues, but they might be sandpaper for all the good they’re doing.

I put sudocrem on my nose when it's like that and it helps a lot.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 24/12/2019 22:00

Oh, I do have Sudocrem. Maybe I will try that before I go to bed. It’s mad how awful a stupid cold can make you feel.

For the future, get some cream with dexpanthenol (= vitamin b5) the only thing that actively heals skin and rakes the redness out.

Not sure why it is not as widely used over here as in Europe, but Google it (la Roche Posay or Bepanthen or Penaten)

Spotty528 · 25/12/2019 09:09

Keep slathering on the Vaseline-before and after every single nose blow. I actually designate a lip balm stick to it, less greasy, easier to apply. Hope you feel better soon.

QueenOfOversharing · 25/12/2019 09:23

As @TheHumansAreDefinitelyDead said - La Roche Posay do a cream called Cicaplast which is incredible. Boots sell it & it's not expensive. I use it to help soothe skin after prescription retinol. It's a godsend!

PurpleBee39 · 25/12/2019 09:41

I hope you feel better soon. I use Savlon on my nose when it is like this, I find it heals it really well.

BillieEilish · 25/12/2019 09:45

For the future, 'The Ordinary' Vit C 23% cream. Miracle worker and less than a fiver!

Haworthia · 25/12/2019 09:49

Cicaplast is really good.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 25/12/2019 11:32

Thank you for these great suggestions. I have moved on to Bepanthen - god knows why we have so many random things lurking in this house. I feel like I have been dug up today. Ho, Ho, Ho. Merry Christmas to all!

Yes vaseline always works for me with a sore red nose from a cold as well.

gingersausage · 25/12/2019 11:42

Vaseline is a barrier cream but has no active ingredients in so it won’t actually heal anything. Cicaplast is brilliant as mentioned, as is First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream. Carmex lip balm smeared on your nose is worth a try too. At night, put a layer of Vaseline over a layer of healing cream.

hettie · 26/12/2019 10:31

Another vote for ciclopast baume.... Best thing for raw red skin

Fluffycloudland77 · 26/12/2019 14:31

It all comes from the inside, if your ill you won’t look glam.

Take your multivitamin & mineral supplements & try to sleep as much as possible.
