Freaking out over hairloss - not sure if this is normal....

Not only do I lose hair when shampooing and conditioning, I also lose hair when it’s wet and I’m combing it through after a wash. My hair is shoulder length. Is this normal?

I do too and have done for years. Still have a healthy head of hair. Does your hair look like it’s thinning?

dontgobaconmyheart · 22/12/2019 15:36

I think it's pretty normal for longer hair. Mine is past my shoulders and it gets everywhere, the hairbrush always has a load of hair in it- no visible hair loss to look at though, I have loads of hair still despite the fact. I do think I get more fallout the more I tie it up so so don't tend to and I do wash it daily as well so who knows.

I think I would only be concerned if it were visibly thinning at the hairline or a bald patch were forming etc.

AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet · 22/12/2019 18:06

I think it's normal.

Have you had a baby in the last year? I found that mine was falling out even more than usual until the babies were at least 1.

Cookit · 22/12/2019 19:16

I thought that was normal?

4-5 months baby I have lost so much that there are hairs everywhere and huge clumps in the bath, but even when not going through that they still shed every time I brush.

Sarahlouiseis33 · 23/12/2019 13:46

Shameless bump!

Normal for me

MashedSpud · 23/12/2019 14:20

If you’re worried take multi vitamins with minerals and make sure you’re hitting daily protein goals (my fitness pal app is great for that).

oohnicevase · 23/12/2019 18:28

I lose a handful of hair every time I wash it , I have loads and loads of hair still ( and an undercut ) .. I only wash my hair every 4/5 days though and don't brush I better ( it's curly so no brushing ) doesn't both me .. it's perfectly normal .

Caramel78 · 23/12/2019 18:35

If you get any thinning on top then the L’Oréal magic retouch root spray is a lifesaver. I have thin hair and my parting is getting noticeably thin. When I spray that it hides any baldness and gives the illusion of thicker hair. I’m anaemic and take a high dosage of iron every day which will hopefully help the hair loss getting much worse

beautifulstranger101 · 23/12/2019 20:20

Its completely normal to lose up to 150 hairs daily. Hair goes through three phases- growth phase, resting phase and falling out phase. Each hair will be in a different phase at any one time and the length of your phases is usually genetically determined.

As long as you aren't seeing scalp or your pony tail is getting thinner then I wouldn't worry about it at all.

oohnicevase · 23/12/2019 20:45

Yes it's normal , it's all the loose hair form washing .

DianaT1969 · 23/12/2019 21:58

Not again! OP, what is going on? You had an identical thread last month with a photo of a tiny amount of hair loss in the sink. You had around 40 people that it seemed normal, less loss than theirs. You bumped the thread about 10 times.

I and sevy others asked on the other thread, but you didn't answer. DO YOU HAVE some kind of anxiety manifesting with a hair loss obsession? In which case identical MN threads aren't going to help you. Why not ask for support and advice on the MH board? Lots of experienced people with good advice on coping mechanisms.

UGotTheLook · 23/12/2019 22:48

I have recently lost a decent heft of weight rather quickly. 3 months after starting the diet (not extreme, but strict) I started finding a gerbils worth of hair on my pillow in the morning, and little handfuls falling out throughout the day. I alreay took a multivit including iron and b12. Ater 2-3 months my hair stopped falling out and it's back no a more normal rate of loss. This sort of thing can happen portpartum, because of stress and shock and ill health, and diet. But for most of us it self rectifies. If you're worried, go to the doctor and get your thyroid checked.

Silverstreaks · 24/12/2019 08:54

If it is an abnormal amount for you get checked out at the doctors. It could be thyroid, iron/Ferrari, hormonal. Dietary change can do it too. In the meantime take vitamin B Complex.

What Diane said.
Not policing what anyone posts but this is the third thread you've had about this. You had lots of reassurance and advice. This one won't be any different, nor will it make you feel better. If you're obsessing about it, posting on here won't help. If you ask from a mental health point of view, it might.

Or maybe you don't have anxiety/dysmorphia/ocd but then I've no idea why you keep asking.

EnidButton · 24/12/2019 17:00

*dysmorphic disorder (not dysmorphia)
