Teenage boys clothing !

I am really struggling to find everyday clothes for my 13/14year old son in the local big shopping centres.
He fits nearer 14/15 years as slight tum and 13/14 seems to be the cut off for high street department stores kids section.
He fits a mans size Xs or s in tops but then the shirt sleeve and body length are too long!
I have tried next, river island, top man , Debenhams, H&M , m&s , today and ended up with 2 shirts from primark menswear department. They will do the job but are a compromise in fit and durability.
Some supermarkets occasionally have sizes but I guess it depends on what stock they have in.
I guess I will have to get into online shopping for him perhaps but I don’t know where to start!
He is not really too bothered about fashion but has a weakness for easy joggers that I am keen to change !

Decathlon is great for everyday stuff, when they come home from school etc. Just trackies and a top/hoody.
Otherwise mine like Nike etc, Hollister.

Next online go up to age 16, I have the same problem for my 14 yr old. He tends to wear xs from jd. if he needs smart clothes we use next or tk maxx is sometimes ok

DS is 15 but on the small side - it's been a chore for the last few years finding clothes to fit that he's happy to wear.

Have had some success with Primark for the occasional pair of jeans (kids section), plain t-shirts (xxs / xs men's) & chino shorts in summer (think they did a 26 waist in the men's).

Odd bits from H&M teens (jeans. plain tops). TK maxx always worth a root around but DS hates it in there! Topman sometimes OK in XXS /XS depending on brand /style.

Most of DS's wardrobe at the moment has come from JD sports / Foot asylum / USC - mainly XXL from the kids section but some t-shirts & sweatshirts in XS from the men's bit (Fred Perry, Nicce, Pretty Green all seem to come up a bit smaller than average).

Hollister XS also good but DS won't wear anything from there except jeans...

It is tricky with boys. Next go upto age 16, from there my DS went into men's medium I think. He's now in men's large which is all well and good but at 16 he's tall and lanky with broad shoulders so it's hard getting large clothes that aren't really baggy.

ASOS are good for online clothes if you don't know where to start with internet shopping. They have detailed size guide charts with measurements so you can order the best fit. Massive range of brands and prices and good pictures of each item which can zoom in on and view from all angles.

Unlike a lot of online retailers, they have free delivery (over £30) and send all the packaging and labels you need for free returns. Really prompt delivery as well.

My teen boys use ASOS for nearly all their clothes

I can't add anything constructive apart from...I feel your pain.

DS is nearly 14 and has always been small for his age but is catcthing up, so is now in 13/14 year clothes. He is in the last size jeans for supermarkets (will checkout Next though)

I do wonder wher they go fom here. SM size is hard to find. OH sometimes needs SM or a 28" in trousers and theybare like hens teeth

Oldraver · 22/12/2019 19:24

Sorry should say that it is XS size we cant find not SM

BHS used to be the only shop that went up to age 17. I have two boys aged 18 and 14 so I am going through this for the second time. My youngest doesn't like jeans and loves joggers so it's hard but last week he finally chose some black jeans in desperation but while he looks good in them they are too short already..

homemadecommunistrussia · 22/12/2019 20:21

H&m used to do teen boy sizes in their shops, I hope they still do. Otherwise m&s, next, gap and debenhams all go up to 16 online.
It's a pain.

homemadecommunistrussia · 22/12/2019 20:21

Oh yes and matalan.

Chewbecca · 22/12/2019 21:35

I have this difficulty too.
H&M finishes at 14.

We now shop mainly in Next & M&S even though I am not mad for the design, they are all that fit him. Some Boden also still good but too frequently the designs are same as for toddlers.

Some men’s XS tops fit but are hard to find and at 5ft 6.5”, generally he is still too short for men’s.

It is a frustrating period.

There are wilderness years between the end of kids clothes and the start of mens! I tend to order jeans and joggers from Next directory or Gap as they have so many sizes. XS and S t shirts and hoodies. Fortunately mine aren't fashion followers. Now we're in the size 6 shoes gap too.
