Skin tag removal

I have a large skin tag on my nipple, any ideas on the cost of getting it removed. It is purely for cosmetic reasons.

If it's a skin tag that's connected by a thin bit of skin you can remove yourself. Tie a length of cotton around the base tightly. After a few days it will die and drop off.
I've got rid of a few like this. I usually cover with a plaster as they can be uncomfortable when they start to die off if you catch them on something.

I've removed skin tags with nail clippers and a plaster. The string method sounds less messy.

I have one too. It came during pregnancy and the doctor told me they wouldn't remove it until I had finished breastfeeding. Then by the time I went back the NHS had stopped doing it so I've never had it removed.

I've heard of the string method mentioned above. Might try it one day.

I also do he string thing- yes to the plaster to cover it up! It just requires a bit of patience.

Snozzlemaid · 19/12/2019 06:48

No mess with the string method at all. It just dries up and drops off. No bleeding at all.

Snozzlemaid · 19/12/2019 06:49

Sorry just reread. Yes it's less messy with string, as I'm sure there must be blood involved if you snip them off.
I'm not that brave!

It only takes about a week.

I use a hair to tie mine off. It's finer and you can get closer to the base of the tag. I also just tried a 'micro tag skin tag remover' which I bought from because I couldn't manage to tie the ones off in my armpit. It puts a tiny elastic band around the base. I thought it wasn't tight enough and wasn't working (it was a small tag), but then I realised it had fallen off somewhere and I hadn't even noticed.

I removed one with apple cider vinegar

Lots of advice says to NOT remove them yourself as they can bleed profusely. I wouldn't do it myself in a sensitive area like that, especially if it is large.

I had a large tag removed at my local beauty salon. Cost £50. It actually did sting in places while being removed but healed so quickly because I think they cauterised it as part of the process. Hasn't grown back either. Best thing I ever did!

I've used cotton thread and the teeny elastic band thing on my husband's skin tags and both were very effective. I read somewhere that dabbling them with tea tree oil daily is another way to get rid, but I cant quite remember how long it should take!

keepingbees · 19/12/2019 13:05

Bare in mind that if you tie something round it you won't be able to get it off again if it's painful.
You can get them removed by electrolysis relatively cheaply at some beauty salons, I'd go up that route if it were me.

I've removed them myself (ice cube to numb and then nail clippers) but I have to say I wouldn't try to remove one on my nipple.

There are machines in Amazon that look like a needles that basically burns them and remove it. You use a number cream and sterile wipes in the process so no pain involved. No blood either. I removed several from my face in July and plan to do another batch during the Xmas holidays using one of those little machines. Go for it!

Thank you all
