What shall I get now?

I have been using liz earl hot cloth cleaner for 10 years plus, it seemed to be the only thing that kept my bad skin under control and generally kept the spots down to a minimum. I have bad skin always and i am never without one or two spots. They go down and down to a small red spot but never completely go. For the past 6 months my skin is like a teenagers, it's the worse it's been for years.

I feel like Liz Earle doesn't work for me anymore. Over the years I have spent a fortune on many many different beauty cleaners, serums, exfoliatators etc and always gone back to Liz Earle as it seemed the only thing that worked on and off.

I have just run out but don't want to buy it again as it doesn't seem to work again. However, I don't want to spend £££ s on something else that won't work or will make it worse.

I have considered making an appointment with a dermatologist who can prescribe routtine (is that the right spelling? ) as I ve heard it's the only thing that will get rid.

Shall I stick with Liz Earle and go to the consultant at £150 or try something else? What else? I am 38 and fed up with having skin like a teenagers. I have to constantly look after it and even then I still have spots. If one thing goes wrong I break out. I am so fed up, it's knocking my confidence.

Sorry that should say I always have at least 5/6 spots around my mouth, chin, cheeks but now they are all over. They go down and down but never completely go. They either stay as a tiny red bump or as a small whitehead.

Have you considered cutting out dairy and sugar?
Drinking more water.
Hormones can give you spots around the mouth.
Do you take any vitamins to help with your skin?

Are you under a lot of stress?

I could of written your post- myself! I’m so sick of having spotty/ acne skin, you name the product-I’ve tried it. Past couple of months, in desperation and lack of money I tried boots glycerine/ rose toner, it’s very cheap and my skin has looked better than it has in a long term. Johnson’s clean and clear moisturizer, applied very thickly to your spots, leave it there until it’s absorbed. Really dries and clears up your spots.

Im a beauty therapist and have been for nearly 10 years

A secret for spots is to dissolve a little aspirin in water and apply it with a cotton wool bud to the spot.
Also Matis skin care I adoreeeeeee
Iv worked with dermalogica, Clarins and a few others but my all time favourite is matis
It depends what you want from the range but it's worth a try or even get a sample pot an see how you feel -plus it smells fab. The lime blossom lotion I could sit and smell all day long

My mum isn't one for skin care at all of make up but she uses this religiously now and she's just finished another round of chemo and ordered herself a hugeeeee box of the stuff to get herself back to "normal" she says lol and to cheer herself up! X

I totally sympathise. I’m 42 and have skin similar to yours. Always, always have spots on my chin, usually the ‘under the surface’ sore ones, and general redness and bumpiness.

I too have tried LOADS of products, and the only things that have worked (all discovered recently):

  • Paulas Choice BHA Liquid Exfoliant - total gamechanger, it’s completely transformed the texture of my skin and reduced the redness and tiny bumps. I got mine from Amazon, awesome stuff.
  • Balance Me congested skin serum - very soothing and doesn’t dry the skin out
  • La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo - now, I must say I have a total love/hate relationship with this and still on the fence with it. I used it as instructed for 3 days and it DID reduce the spots dramatically BUT it also made the surrounding skin tight, dry and flaky, and also stung. I now use the face wash sporadically, but def not every day, and the so called moisturiser I would def not recommend as a moisturiser, but more of a spot treatment, sparingly.
The Ordinary Niacinamide and Revolution Collodial skin serum are also good ones, and cheap. Have also seen a reduction since cutting down on dairy. Hope this helps.

I don't have the same skin type as you, but I love my elemis cleansing balm, which always seems to keep my skin balanced. What do you use to remove cleanse and polish, do you use the muslin cloths?, if so how often do you change them. I have now changed to face clothes, I have a stack of cheap ones and use a clean one every day I find the give a gentle exfoliation, much better than the muslin ones.
