Work wear for an office novice

So yesterday I secured a dream job and was very excited today I've realised I better get some suitable clothing. I have never had an office based job, my usual work wear would be dark Jean's and a casual shirt with wellies Blush
I know the dress code for this office is smart but not formal, no Jean's but not full business suits etc. I have no idea where to start with trying to build a wardrobe.
I'm 29, 5ft 9 and a size 12, pear shaped. Would welcome any suggestions or advice. This role is a BIG step up for me and I'm going to be managing alot of mainly older men so I feel I need to really look the part

Congratulations on your new role!!!

I think you need to feel comfortable and feel nice about yourself!

Shirt dresses with black tights and ankle boots / dolly shoes / flats
Ankle grazers and shirts
Black fitted blazers are always ideal

Don't but too much just plan your first week and then see how the land lies..

May I counsel you against ballet pumps? They don't help you to walk confidently and are inevitably quite girly which is not the look you want.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 18/12/2019 23:04

Agreed, Palavah. Ballet pumps are infantilising footwear for grown women.

Thankyou all, no need to worry about ballet pumps I haven't owned a pair since I was about 12. I do have two pairs of brouges (brown and black) and navy heeled shoe boots which can be used if heels seem needed.

I like loafers for work, I have size 8 feet and ballet pumps make them look ginormous.
