Decent smoothing product for frizzy, pouffy hair which doesn't require heat?

Has anyone found any variety of smoothing cream or balm, or leave-in conditioner, that you can put on towel dried, voluminous frizzy hair to smooth and flatten it a bit before letting it air dry? It is very "strong" and resistant to any kind of styling, although I already have the holy grail of heat-activated smoothing perfection in the Colour WOW Dreamcoat stuff - it's amazing but expensive, and despite the rigid and rough cuticle my hair breaks easily so I don't always want to be dragging a brush through it under 230 degrees of hot air.

I've tried dozens of products over the years - serums and oils (too heavy), Dream Lengths (sticky), leave-in conditioners (dulled my hair and made it knotty), detanglers (great for making it silky soft but no de-frizzing effect).

At the moment I have a cheap Palmers coconut leave-in spray which is great for detangling and softening, but i don't care for the smell and it still leaves my hair gigantic and pouffy which even GHDs struggle with.

Any recommendations, is there anything out there for me barnet? I've just had 4 inches cut off, it was unmanageable.

Please an you do some more revues/update? Following with Interest as my daughters hair sounds exactly same as yours and I'm debating trying CGM but I can't bear thought of not brushing her hair, tried straightening it but like you don't want to heat damage x

yes look into the curly girl method (not just for curlies)

Magpie1976 · 22/12/2019 10:18

Same here OP. And curly girl method didn't work at all and I tried it for about 2 years. Every day my hair is a huge frizzy mess

Seconding Bumble and Bumble don’t blow it. But don’t use too much. I have very curly but fine hair that gets weighed down really easily so I need a light touch.

Have you tried olaplex 6? My hair sounds similar to yours. I’ve just started using this when I want to air dry my hair and it’s made a huge difference.

I've always been terribly disappointed with bumble and bumble products. I have fine yet curly hair (very prone to frizz) and I currently use this:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/milkshake-Leave-In-Conditioner-350ml/dp/B002KQ7E9M/ref=mppsaa1_3?keywords=milkshake+leave+in+conditioner&qid=1577011927&sprefix=milksha&sr=8-3

Then I use a curl cream (prefer mine curly) and allow it to dry naturally. I also use this conditioner on both my DDs hair - one has curly and one straight hair and it works well for both of them.

Actually sitting here straightening my hair right now! Aveda smooth infusion is good, won't get rid of the curls but smooths the frizz.

I think Moroccan oil is very good. Pricey though

margaritasbythesea · 22/12/2019 14:15

I use the olice oil version of the one you have OP and really like it, although it builds up in my hair very quickly

canyon2000 · 22/12/2019 16:38

I use Twisted Sista creme gel and it is my favourite thing ever! Smells good too!

MerryDeath · 22/12/2019 21:30

I use CUrly girl products but I don't scrunch, or plop, or diffuse. After gel I just wrap in a conventional turban and go to bed, hair dries with a bit of a wave and if necessary I tidy with hot tools.

I particularly am loving bouncecurl cream and my faithful ROD boucleme gel.

I don’t necessarily recommend this, but, my hair was like yours before. I went and had Optismooth treatment. It was incredible. I kept it up at the salon for about two years then did it at home for another year. Eventually I decided to stop because I wanted to bleach my hair and I couldn’t do both. I haven’t had it for a good four years now but somehow my hair still grows in mostly straight and it’s not frizzy. I do the odd keratin treatment at home and that’s it.
