Eyelid cracking/splitting.

I have dry skin , with somtimes a problem with eczema.
One of my eyelids is often dry and flaky.
Recently it has been cracked, and a split across one of the lines on my eyelid, it's pretty painful as well.
Any ideas of any cream that will not irritate and will heal ?
Thanks.

Sounds sore. When I get cracked skin up the side of my hand I find plain baseline helps.

Topbird29 · 17/12/2019 19:35

Vaseline - not baseline!

I ended up with prescribed steroid cream for that. Allergies were causing it and finding the culprits (hard) has eliminated it. I’d try the GP if you can.

Livedandlearned · 17/12/2019 19:35

Dovobet on prescription is amazing for this exact problem.

Ineedaweeinpeace · 17/12/2019 19:36

Dripobase

I am (or was) exactly the same. Until I stopped using shampoo - turns out it was causing my eyes to be sore and flaky! Ps in the meantime a little sudocreme mixed with a plain moisturiser might help, I can list my moisturisers if u would like !

Second the steroid cream, I had a patch that I didn't think was that bad but dr said steroid cream needed. Also had a patch that needed antibiotics.

She also recommended aveeno - I've been slathering on the aveeno baby dermexa good night emollient balm and gives some comfort.

SoVeryLost · 17/12/2019 19:51

Steroid cream and also check on shampoo. I have to be careful washing my hair in winter.

VictoriaBun · 17/12/2019 19:55

I use faith in nature shampoo or a bar. I do have Aveeno , I could try that but was thinking something heavier to hopefully really sink in and work.

I have sudocream as well, will try that.

Good luck, personally would not touch any shampoo, but maybe that’s just my skin

I have very bad issues with my lips. The only thing that works is Jurlique love balm. Not sure how suitable it is for eyelids but worth a try.

Sunflower40 · 17/12/2019 20:18

I have this exact thing over & under my eyes. I use Dr Paw Paw ointment on it & once it's less sore/ broken Kiehls creamy avocado eye cream. I also found changing shampoo, makeup, etc to sulphate/paraben free/ natural products made a difference alongside cutting most dairy from my diet. It's so sore ☹️ I had to take antihistamine at some points to take the worst of discomfort away.

MotherofKitties · 17/12/2019 20:28

Hi OP,

A bit random, but try Lanolin.

It's a cream for cracked nipples and it's like Vaseline on steroids in terms of hydrating skin. I have eczema and I use it when I get a flair up and sorts my very dry skin right out.

Hope you get sorted x

Thanks for all your suggestions.

Those of you not using shampoo - how do you wash your hair?

Lovelyjubbly45 · 18/12/2019 23:01

Sometimes with just conditioner, sometimes baking soda (that’s a great alternative) there are lots of alternatives to give a go

Rachelfromfriends1 · 18/12/2019 23:15

I occasionally get dry patches on my eyelids too, I blame it on the change in environment as it essentially happens every winter and again around early spring. It’s similar to eczema. Yours sounds more severe though, the split skin must be sore.

I mainly layer eye creams and use something like aquaphor or Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream and drench my eyelids overnight. It eventually passes!

PlonkyPlink · 18/12/2019 23:22

1% hydrocortisone cream (mild steroid) available over the counter if you don’t mention that it’s for your face. Thin layer at bedtime for 3-4 days should clear it up nicely (I’m a GP and get the same problem in winter).

Lovelyjubbly45 · 18/12/2019 23:28

Try to avoid steroids on your eyes, it can be a bad cycle to get into with long term effects (droopy eyelids). Best to find the cause and émoliate
