I have no idea how to dress

I’ve let myself go for several years. I’m Mid 30’s frumpy. Pudgy belly. 5’2” - size 10/12 - 10st. My New Years resolution is to look after myself better and part of that is dressing better. I spend most days in unflattering but comfortable jogging bottom things with trainers and a long sleeve jersey top with a fleecy zip up. Hair scraped back into a hair bobble. Zero effort. Zero style. I have no Idea what is flattering or “in date” or stylish. I’m not really into heels but wouldn’t mind a boot with a low heel.

Could people post photos of what looks good? (Doesn’t have to be yourself- off the Internet will do) and ideas where to shop to give me some starting points?

First, I would say look at people when you are out and about and take note of the sort of things you like. You have to like what you spend mo eg on a wear. Fashion is very subjective, what some people think is very fashionable, others don't. Ripped jeans is one of these. I don't see the obsession but everyone seems to have a pair. Pinterest is another good place to look for inspiration.
Once you have thought about the styles you like, invest in a few decent bits like jeans. You pick the fit, could be skinny, straight or 'boyfriend' shaped. I would have at least a pair in blue and possibly a pair in black. I tend to have skinny jeans. I also love chinos and tailored trousers as well. I go for the more relaxed fit and team the deck shoes with some deck shoes or heels for the tailored trousers. I also have a lot of jumpers in various forms, roll neck, boat neck, baggy, tight etc as these are easy to dress up.
I find H&M is a good place to pick up bits. They tend to do 'basics' which range from vest tops to blouses. Zara is also good but can be a little hit a miss. I also like Gap and they seem to be having loads of sales at the moment so can pick up some nice bits for not a lot of money.
Below are Pinterest pics of the sort of things I tend to wear.
I tend to go for the smart casual look which is comfy and actually takes minimal effort but 'I think' still looks stylish.

OH I like the second two looks. The first is lovely but a bit more dressy than I would wear. I actually have a shirt very like the middle photo. I think my belly is a problem. I might have to dedicate a day to trying on lots of jeans. Thanks for the tips!

I would buy a pair of dark blue skinny jeans and a pair of black skinny jeans.

Some basic long sleeve tops and short sleeves. Tight fitting. Neutral shades.Xmas Wink

A pretty camisole top in a white, black or navy.
A black faux leather biker jacket.
A blazer again in navy or black.
A pair of ankle boots.
A white button down shirt.
A midi skirt, a shift dress.

You have a capsule wardrobe.Xmas Grin
