Watching with interest. Im in the market for a peel but there seems to be so many different options.

The Ordinary AHA/BHA 30% peel is ace, it’s the red liquid. I only leave it on for 5 mins but it really works. Way stronger than Liquid Gold which I think is 5% glycolic only.

Brilliant. Will I peeel? I want to do something drastic with my time off!!

Sorry to hijack op, is there any benefit to doing a salon peel that cost £70 than a home one?

DumbFlagScum · 18/12/2019 16:37

I don't know turnip, I've had a couple of them in the past and not noticed any difference which was unfortunate

So turnip, I think it depends on your problem area.

Mine is wrinkles so I am thinking I need glycolic.

Salicylic for blackheads

That's all I know...

Thanks @DumbFlagScum, my problems are wrinkles, brown spots and random bumps.
Interesting that a salon peel wasn't great.

Karmatime · 18/12/2019 17:19

Mmm I’m not sure you would peel drastically unless you left it on for longer than it recommends. I left it on for 15 mins by mistake once and was a bit red and sore afterwards but my skin didn’t peel like a lizard if that’s what you’re looking for.

DumbFlagScum · 18/12/2019 18:00

I seriously want to peel. I am never put of public view this long!!!

I have had a dermalogica peel for me i was unimpressed, but I only one and rwally a course is needed. I know someone who's dil had terrible sun damage she had a course of peels and the difference was amazing. However I am always slightly unsure of the wisdom of peeling the top layer of skin off unless there is damage that needs addressing. For me it upset my as skin for weeks afterwards.

DumbFlagScum · 18/12/2019 18:54

Yes, I worry about that too, @ffsseriously
Presumably you only have a finite number of layers to peel, or a predefined number of times that your skin can peel, right?

Peels you get a beauty salons will take off the epidermis, medical grade peels go through the dermis. I just feel that being gentle and nurturing the skin is better. However if you gave a specific issue that you want sorting then getting that sorted with support from a skin specialist will definitely help.

Ffsseriously · 18/12/2019 19:24

The thinking behind peels is that you remove the top layers of skin which encourages the skin to speed up cell renewal meaning your skin looks fresher.
