Iceland in February?

I'm off to Iceland in February with DP and I'm very excited! But...what do you wear? Thermals? Waterproof trousers and jacket?

I'm size 18 and am on a budget. Any ideas welcome.

Thank you!

I’ve been twice in feb . Just wore normal clothes but took gloves hats scarves etc

I really feel the cold and needed to layer. I wore 66 North Parka, padded puffa jacket, water proof trousers, snow boots, warm faux fur lined hat and mittens. We spent most of our time outdoors. The weather can change incredibly quickly.

Thanks very much. I do feel the cold so was thinking of thermals under trousers and warm coat etc.

ZaraW did you wear a parka and a puffa jacket??

we went in March. It was bloody freezing - I bought some thermal tights and worn them under cargo trousers, plenty of vests to layer up, then long sleeves and jumper and a ski jacket. Hat, gloves, scarf, sunglasses ( snow glare), thick socks and walking boots.

cjpark you sound like my kind of dresser! Grin

I've been twice (Oct & July) and even in July it was cold. The biggest challenge was the wind. The landscape is open and exlosed and the wind can be really cutting! Take as many layers as you can. I really struggle with the cold so was really well wrapped up. Stunning country though :-)

TheWoodsareDarkandDeep · 17/12/2019 22:22

It was cold even in July.
Get thermals, waterproof boots, warm socks and hat as a minimum.
The Icelandic wool clothes they sell there are super cosy but expensive

Orangesandlemons82 · 17/12/2019 22:24

I went last month and it was the wind (and rain!) That made it uncomfortable. I wore 2 base layers a thin jumper and then a zip up hoodie under a north face waterproof coat. I also had thermal gloves, socks and wore thin leggings under jeans with waterproof trousers over the top. I found I needed one of those hygge band things over my face as the wind and rain hitting my cheeks was painful without.
Hope you have a great time. I was knackered when I got back from constantly putting on layers and taking them off in coffee shops!

Orangesandlemons82 · 17/12/2019 22:26

Oh and definitely proper waterproof walking shoes.

Lampan · 17/12/2019 22:26

Avoid cotton for everything (apart from maybe knickers!). Cotton absorbs moisture and then gets cold. It’s the best tip I read on how to stay warm. Choose thermals, wool or fleece. Get to Mountain Warehouse outlet or similar, they have bargain thermals etc.

CrazyCatLady159 · 17/12/2019 22:27

I've just come back from there

Most days I had thermals on, then fleece lined leggings. Thermal socks, timberland boots.
Thermal top, then a thick jumper & a hoody.
Scarf, hat, gloves and a waterproof padded coat

Smile you'll have the best time!

Orangesandlemons82 · 17/12/2019 22:28

It's better to start off with too many layers and remove them, than be freezing all day. I thought what I put on was ridiculous but as soon as we got out and felt the wind I was pleased I had. It's an amazing country and you won't enjoy it if you aren't wearing enough layers!

ZaraW · 18/12/2019 05:33

Zesty yes I wore both. Merino thermals as well.

nononever · 18/12/2019 08:32

Oh you lucky thing! I've been three times, twice over Christmas & New Year. The first time it was actually colder back home (Scotland) and the second time there was very heavy snow. Merino thermals are amazing. Definitely wear layers, at least you can take some off if you are too warm. I have a faux fur lined, wind & waterproof 66 North parka it is really cozy, expensive but worth it. Footwear with a good grip in case it's icy.

beckyy · 18/12/2019 08:40

I went in November, wore normal winter clothes but added hat and gloves with liners.

Rosere · 18/12/2019 11:15

Good thick socks, good boots and all the accessories. I had long sleeve thermal top, good thick down coat, scarf, hat and my hands are generally blue so I wear 2 pairs of gloves. And sunglasses.

Basically what I wear here 😂
