Good but not tested on animals make-up

I have some money to spend on myself and would like to get some make up. I really need some light foundation and concealer (serious under eye circles). Any recommendations?

Revolution is vegan and is sold in Superdrug, my daughter massively rates the under eye concealer.

NYX is sold in boots that is cruelty free and has good foundations and other products.

They are both purse friendly options, but good products!Xmas Grin

Body shop has good products too.

zemblanity · 15/12/2019 21:16

Urban Decay is cruelty free and I think it's vegan.

EeeByeGummieBear · 15/12/2019 21:28

Lily Lilo- lovely cream foundation, not tested in animals and suitable for vegans. Only available online as far as I'm aware

QueenofLouisiana · 15/12/2019 21:37

Another vote for Revolution. Also look at Aldi cosmetics, they’re good dupes of much more expensive brands.

WeCameToDanceWithTheDead · 15/12/2019 21:49

Maybe not for everyone but I love Kat Von D. I haven't had a dud product from her range and I've tried a lot of it. Also very much vegan and cruelty free.

Thanks you all! I will have a small shopping spree this week- so nice to buy something for myself for a change!

I have bought a few products from Superdrug (inc Revolution - though not sure every one of their products is vegan?) and have yet to find any that I rate, so watching this thread with interest!

Blueshadow · 15/12/2019 23:27

We have a new Superdrug near us and I felt completely overwhelmed by the choice of make up. It’s nice to get some recommendations. The Lily Lilo make up looks rather lovely too.

Charlotte Tilbury

Have a look at crueltyfreeinternational.com and crueltyfreekitty.com

No 7 is cruelty free - they have a great foundation too :

No product, or ingredients in products, can be sold in the EU if they've been tested on animals. Some companies have different formulations which are tested on animals to comply with Chinese regulations, so it may be specific companies you wish to avoid, rather than individual products.

BinkySodPlop · 15/12/2019 23:36

Sorry, to clarify, no make-up product. Pharmaceuticals still need animal testing to get a licence.

HandsOffMyRights · 15/12/2019 23:40

Tortoiser thanks. That's useful to know.

MeowyChristmas · 16/12/2019 02:43

Ere Perez is nice

Crazybunnylady123 · 16/12/2019 08:44

I just want to tell you that boots no 7 is not cruelty free. The parent company tests on animals.

gingersausage · 16/12/2019 10:34

That’s rubbish @BinkySodPlop. Plenty of mainstream makeup companies still aren’t cruelty free - Benefit and MAC to name just two of the most popular ones.

OP don’t rely on MN for the answers, double check each product online before you buy. Revolution for instance is all cruelty free, but not all vegan. The Superdrug website has a section for vegan products which makes it easy to check before you go to the shop.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 16/12/2019 11:41

It depends on how far you want to dig really .
Lots of the Vegan products , I search through and there's either nothing about being cruelty free or a very woolly blurb about "complying with regulations/law "
If they had Leaping Bunny status or the Cruelty Free Status , it would be on the product .

Some companies are under a parent company that does test , though they themselves do not .
And there's finished product not tested on animals but every ingredient might be ,Or tested on their behalf .

China - if they export to China , testing is mandatory . I'm guessing this is done in China , but you have to decide if you want to spend your money on somewhere that does this.

KatVonD has had a load of bad press about AntiVaxing .

BodyShop was sold and a lot of buyers rejected them because of this (though the company that bought them was a Cruelty Free company ) and now they have had a resurgance promoting their status .

Lush- has attracted a lot of bad press with their campaigns

There are loads of companies out there , and Superdrug is as good a place as any to start
Primark too, but my DD was in there , some of their make-up stands have signs , some do not . So she didn't buy them

Schwibble · 16/12/2019 13:02

Beauty Without Cruelty has the best lipsticks I've ever used.

BinkySodPlop · 16/12/2019 13:21

Hence my explicit comment about companies verses products. Please just Google EU regulation on animal testing on make-up if you don't believe me. 🤷‍♀️

Honeybee85 · 16/12/2019 13:24

Kiko Milano has the best budget concealer IMO.
I haven’t tried their foundations yet.

They also have other great stuff, lipsticks and lipglosses can compete with high end brands in terms of quality, great mascaras and blushes too.

BakerBoys77 · 16/12/2019 14:50

Check out products at Content Beauty Wellbeing, they're based in Marylebone, London. It's tricky finding vegan makeup as a lot of 'natural' makeup tends to contain bees wax. But I am sure they'll have some brands that are. And I assume all are cruelty free.
