Dd has ridiculously think hair, should I bite the bullet and buy Cloud Nines?

Sorry for another hair straightner thread!

I've been reading recent threads which seem to conclude that new GHDs are not a patch on the old type and that Cloud 9s are the best brand.

Dd has incredibly thick hair which goes frizzy at any hint of moisture. She currently use a mini babyliss which I bought years ago for straightening my fringe. I takes her about an hour as she has so much hair!

I've been looking out for the Remington Shine Therapy wide plate recommended here they're sold out everywhere (in Ireland so reaching the cut off point for online shopping from the U.K.) , so should I just take a deep breath and pay €180 for the cloud nines?

My hair frizzes at the slightest hint of moisture. I bought some colour wow humidity spray after seeing it recommended on here. It's been a total game changer! I use a Pantene serum and the spray and then straighten with my cheap and cheerful babyliss straighteners and it stays smooth and frizz free all day.

I can’t help with straighteners but if you want to combat frizz you need to get moisture into your hair...lots of conditioner and nothing containing silicone or sulfates.

Sorry, I know you were asking for straighter recommendations Blush To be honest, I think with using a good product, you can get away with any half decent straighteners. My babyliss ones were less than £30 and work just as well as the cloud 9 my hairdresser uses. They're all one and the same really!

I have Cloud 9s and they are fantastic! I have used GHD, Babyliss, Remington..hands down these are the best. They give my really thick hair an amazing shine in just a few minutes. I love them.

I have very thick hair and my cloud nines are great - better than my old ghd. The other thing that made a difference was buying a parlux hairdryer rather than something cheap from boots

When my ghds broke I bought a cheap pair of tresseme ones for £30 to use till I could replace them. Just as good and I still use them now didn’t buy new ghds

I’ve got long thick hair and bought wide plate cloud 9s but don’t really rate them. They’d probably be ok for normal thickness hair but they take ages to go through mine and don’t give a particularly great finish. I tend to mainly use my really old remingtons which have wider plates and easier to use. Nothing about my cloud 9s makes them seem like an expensive product.

If she has long hair defo wide plate straighteners .

Hate my Babyliss - I use it for travelling and in comparison to my Cloud 9s I feel it is nothing like as smooth, I can sometimes see lines where it has stopped and started and that it damages my hair more. And they’re the only set I ever burn myself on.

FartnissEverbeans · 16/12/2019 00:51

I had some Babyliss straighteners and they were utterly useless.

I have GHDs now (Cloud 9s not available in the country where I live) and it’s like night and day. I can straighten my thick hair in about ten minutes before work.

I also second the Parlux hairdryer, which I bought following a recommendation on this board almost ten years ago!

Wide plate Kipozis from Amazon are supposed to be the mutts nuts for thick hair.
