Hairloss -Some perspective please...

Hi All,

I’ve been having some hairloss for the last seven months plus. I think it may be reducing to a more normal level now however. I wash my hair about twice a week and have put a picture of the fall out of a wash and combing out after. Does this look like a normal amount? 🤞🤞

Hairloss -Some perspective please...

Did anyone who suffered from hair loss manage to figure out the cause? Or a treatment/product that helped?

Sarahlouiseis33 · 14/12/2019 18:28

@Rachelfromfriends1 My GP has changed my contraceptive pill to Dianette as that’s supposed to be a good one for helping hair x

@kalinkafoxtrot45 - Get your gp to check for thyroid problems. I’ve got an underactive thyroid and when it goes low and I need a medication increase I get hairloss. Also low iron/ferritin can cause hairloss x

Take a good hair/skin/nails vitamin. If you are deficient in something then you will lose more. I have dreadfully fine hair which doesn't grow. PP I was left with bald patches. 4 years later I am still reliant on hair extensions to make me look like I have hair. I would love to have thick, long hair naturally but have to fake it to get what I want.

Ffeyone · 15/12/2019 00:10

Perfectly normal, I wouldn’t worry

BitOfFun · 15/12/2019 00:19

That's fuck all. I could fill a cushion within a month.

Sarahlouiseis33 · 15/12/2019 12:48

Shamelessly bumping for more opinions xx

I lose a lot more hair than that, so much so that I was scared to wash my hair. Lots comes out even just brushing my hair.

CallarMorvern · 15/12/2019 13:24

I had terrible hairloss, my pony tail turned into a skinny little thing. I'd pretty much resigned myself to it being a menopausal thing. But went to the doctor's as I felt terrible in general. Turns out I had shockingly low ferritin. A couple of years later and after lots of iron tablets, I have long lovely hair, it's not quite as thick as it was, but is loads better and I'm quite happy with it now.

CallarMorvern · 15/12/2019 13:26

Sorry, I didn't answer your question. That looks less hair than I lose now, but mine is long so probably looks worse.

Sarahlouiseis33 · 15/12/2019 21:42

Bumping for anyone else? x

Just curious OP why you bump this thread a lot? Lots of responses and all reassuring.

EnidButton · 16/12/2019 03:36

Yes I was wondering that. Is it bothering you to the point you feel obsessed by it? Because that a whole different thread. If you asked about wanting help to stop excessively worrying about it all the time, (if you are), then I'm sure lots of people could give you advice. Flowers

As it is I'll just answer what you've asked, yes it's normal in fact I'd say it's much less than normal. For me that me probably one comb through's worth. You could fashion a decent 80's merkin out of what falls out of my head during a wash. I have very thick full hair and have asked my hairdresser if it's thinning and she said a definite no. I guess loads of loss is normal for me and for you that little bit is normal.

Bendybop · 16/12/2019 03:52

I think you're paranoid op

Most people's hair grows for 5-7 years before it's shed and replaced by new growth. It's all done gradually so you don't generally notice it shedding unless you comb or brush your hair and the hair that has left the scalp will get collected on the brush.
It's normal to shed up to 100 strands of hair daily, could be more if you have a high density of hair to start with.
When pregnant and then breast feeding your natural hair growth cycle pauses so you don't lose any hair during this period, that's why some women's hair looks very lush and full.
Afterwards, the hair that would have been naturally shed during this long period of stasis, starts to fall out so it will seem like you're losing huge amounts of hair when in reality your body is just catching up with itself.

If you're really worried, book an appt. with a Trichologist.
