I have pretty ok skin but for the past few months I have this on one of my cheeks only. In the morning it itches a bit. It covers with make up and stops itching unless I rub it which does make it itch again a bit. Any ideas what it is and how I can get rid of it? It’s def not acne spots, never develops any kind of head at all.

DH just been to the GP with a similar looking rash, his is in both cheeks and upper lip. Doc didn’t give it a name, but prescribed cream, hydrocortisone I think. He’s only just got it yesterday so can’t tell you if it’ll work yet!

Itsashame · 12/12/2019 18:54

I’ve got some hydrocortisone, might try it, thank you

Probably not but on the off-chance it’s the same thing, I get this kind of warm, itchy rash on my cheeks when I take turmeric.

Itsashame · 12/12/2019 18:57

Thanks but I haven’t been having turmeric. It’s been there every day for a few months now so I don’t think it’s something I’m eating

It could be rosacea. Ask for a non-urgent GP appointment for advice.

MilkTrayLimeBarrel · 12/12/2019 19:01

I would say rosacea too -ask to see a dermatologist.

Itsashame · 12/12/2019 19:01

Do you think it could be? I thought Rosecea was more redness and on both sides of the face?

I have been having similar recently op and taking an antihistamine in the morning to settle it

Wynona · 12/12/2019 20:22

Have you changed washing powder or do you use reed scent sticks. I removed all scented sticks from the house and felt so much better. Another tip was a silk pillow case. Skin has never felt this good. My frizzy hair is also in better condition.

Itsashame · 12/12/2019 20:25

No change in washing powder and I don’t have the reed sticks but I do use scented candles. I’ve heard silk pillow cases are good for hair but I didn’t know they helped skin. Thanks

Aveeno has also helped. You need to be careful with hydrocortisone especially on your face it is not a good idea to have anything stronger than 0.5% which has to be prescribed.

Wynona · 12/12/2019 20:32

GP can usually prescribe. It is better to get in under control than keep itching. Then work out what you are doing differently. Tumble dry sheets, ironing water anything that is out of the ordinary? Review if you are drinking plenty of water and so on

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 12/12/2019 20:34

Looks like a reaction to something, creams, facewash? Take an antihistamine and see if that helps and use some antihistamine cream too.

Biglumpycustard · 12/12/2019 20:38

It could be Rosecea, I suffer from it, red checks and spots only treated with antibiotics. I'm afraid if it is, you have it for life.

JMAngel1 · 12/12/2019 20:55

Is it the side that you hold your phone nect to?

Itsashame · 12/12/2019 20:55

Thanks everyone.

Hold off on hydrocortisone until you've seen a doctor! I had perioral dermatitis years ago (this doesn't look like that) and started using hydrocortisone. It made it better initially but as soon as I stopped, it just came back and I ended up in an awful cycle of not being able to stop using it, even though I knew it wasn't helping. So yeah, seek advice first!

CurbsideProphet · 12/12/2019 22:27

It looks a bit like perioral dermatitis. I have that and seborrhoeic dermatitis. When I had a bad flare up a 12 week course of Lymacycline sorted it. On advice from the dermatologist I saw I wash my face with Dermal 500 lotion (bought OTC from the pharmacy) and use a moisturiser from Avene.

Central heating and cold weather can flare up mine, as can essential oils and lanolin.
