Hi, just wondered if anyone knows what seasalt Janelle and the other seasalt coats are like size wise?

Thanks :)

I've just bought a seasalt coat and would definitely recommend going down a size. They're very generous! I liked the janelle online but tried it on in store and found that it swamped me. It's a big coat!! I went for the plant hunter instead which still has the length I want but isn't quite so huge. Gorgeous colour too. I love it! Only grumble is that i struggle with the double zip. Just can't seem to do it up with ease!!!

doriana8 · 12/12/2019 14:37

Thank you, that's very useful to know :)

I'm here to disagree i think they are true to size and if you size down you are going to be uncomfortable and only able to wear a t-shirt!

i've got the janelle and it's great but it is long (i am 5'3") so doesn't get worn as often as i planned:

viccat · 12/12/2019 14:54

I own four of their coats for different seasons and would say they are true to size - some are a more generous style while others are more fitted, but you can tell from the photos. With the autumn/winter styles I definitely wouldn't size down as I want to fit a winter jumper under them.

butterry · 12/12/2019 15:00

I had to go down 2 sizes. I have the Maenporth and it's really warm and quite waterproof. I love it. The zip is really quite fiddly though!

QueenAnnesHat · 12/12/2019 15:15

I think Seasalt have gone for vanity sizing. I bought a new coat a few weeks ago and ordered based on the size of a coat I already had, which was actually a bit tight. I had to return it for a size down!
I tried the Janelle coat. It was lovely, but a bit too long for welly-wearing dog walks (I'm 5 ft 6), I thought the bottom of the coat would get muddy. Ended up with a Polperro coat, which has a detachable inner lining - which means its good for 3 season wear. It's really warm and very waterproof and a great length. I'm very pleased with it. Still hankering for a Janelle though - the styling is lovely.

ClientListQueen · 12/12/2019 15:17

I've just ordered the plant hunter after getting soaked on my lunch break!

Tanaqui · 12/12/2019 15:23

I'm in Sweden and my Janelle is perfect- warm and waterproof. I'm 5'4 and a size 10/12, have the 12 and its roomy enough for layers and a fleece but not massive. Would definitely buy again.

kelper · 12/12/2019 15:24

I bought a plant hunter a couple of weeks ago, they had a 16 on display which looked enormous on me, so the assistant managed to find a 14 and its perfect. Gorgeous green colour, hood stays put, its brilliant, and its about to get tested in rain for the first time as I walk round to vote!
I baulked a bit at spending so much on a coat, but the store I bought it in (I do recommend going to a store to try them on) had a christmas discount going so I got 15% off.

Wanderingraspberry · 12/12/2019 15:31

I have Janelle and bought the right size. It's fairly generous but I wouldn't size down as it's perfect for a layer or two underneath if needed. Best coat I've ever had. I thought it wouldn't be warm enough but it's perfect!!!

doriana8 · 12/12/2019 16:16

Thank you all. need a waterproof coat, but there are so many to choose from. what about the seafolly? Thanks again

Another vote for polperro here, had it a year and the detachable inner means it's the only one I've needed. I rounded down a size as I'm usually between sizes and it's great, don't tend to wear really bulky things underneath though

kelper · 12/12/2019 17:50

Just an update on the Planthunter, its absolutely throwing it down here, I walked to the polling station via walking to meet DS, and the only wet bit of me is my shins (I'm 5' 7" and the coat comes to my knees)
I've hung the coat up in the carport and the water is beading off it, its fascinating to watch!

polyhymnia · 12/12/2019 18:18

I’d like to hear any more views of the Planthunter as against the Janelle and which people prefer, please.

I’ve got a lighter weight Hidden Creek which I like. Had to go down two sizes in that but it is deliberately’oversized’which I didn’t want. Also have a Porthchapel which I find practical but also a bit boring, plus the fabric is very ‘hard’ and even rustles. The Hidden Creek fabric though is gorgeous-soft as a peach but keeps rain out.

viccat · 12/12/2019 21:07

I have the Planthunter from a few years back, I'm 5ft3 and it's a great length for me (I assume the Janelle would be way too long).

LilyRed · 12/12/2019 21:47

I live in West wet windy Scotland, so got a Planthunter, I'm another 5'3" person so down to just over my knees as I wanted the length because it's co-o-o-old up here (originally from West Country England and used to slightly warmer, but no less wet and windy winters!).

I bought my normal size as it's designed to be big enough to layer up with jumpers if required, fits a treat. Pockets hold gloves, dog lead, purse, phone & usual allsorts and stuff does not fall out like some coats I've owned.

Foxglove40 · 12/12/2019 21:53

I”m 5’4”, a standard size 10 in most shops and have the Janelle in size 8. Fits perfectly, decent length keeps me warm and dry on playground duty and Cornish beach walks. I’m so pleased I got it.

Aworldofmyown · 13/12/2019 12:11

I have a Janelle for winter and I LOVE it. The length is great for me (tall) as it reaches the tops of my wellies. Totally water and wind proof.

I would say its true to size for a tall person - maybe someone smaller than 5'8 might want to size down.

ClientListQueen · 13/12/2019 14:16

My plant hunter is due to arrive tomorrow so will report back!

polyhymnia · 13/12/2019 15:46

Interesting feedback - thanks. I’m 5’9’’ and large. So sounds as though Janelle might be better for me on length and I should probably try my normal size. I live in London - anyone got views on whether either Janelle or Planthunter would look good in city as well as country?

ClientListQueen · 13/12/2019 16:00

@polyhymnia I'm 5ft 10 and a size 16 and will be wearing for work/town/country so hoping it fits and I can report back tomorrow

Chottie · 13/12/2019 16:38

I have the Janelle, I'm 5' 6" and a size 10 and I wear it around London. I love it, it is warm and waterproof, no matter how heavy the rain, I am always dry. I'm really pleased I bought it.

polyhymnia · 13/12/2019 20:08

client and Chottie, did you buy your Janelles in your usual sizes?

ClientListQueen · 13/12/2019 21:10

@polyhymnia yes - I am busty so hoping it fits!

BobbinThreadbare123 · 13/12/2019 21:13

I've got a Janelle in a 12. I'm 5'7" ish. I am a fairly trim 12 but I wouldn't size down due to having a big bust. Also like to wear jumpers under it.
