Veja Trainers

I intend to buy veja trainers for myself for xmas - yay! Does anyone know whether they fit bigger or smaller than average? I'm between 5 and 6 and I can't find any shops to try them on in (I'm not in London). TIA

I'd say the length is pretty 'normal' but they are relatively narrow so not suitable if you have wide feet. They're also well known for the tongue on their trainers being excessively long and a lot of people complain that it rubs their leg/ankle because of the length. I find their trainers bloody uncomfortable for this reason and always have to wear socks with mine to prevent them rubbing my bloody skin off the front of my ankle. Shame as they're ok trainers. No idea why they make their tongues so long but if you Google, you'll find quite a few people complaining about it. Wish I'd known this before I bought mine!

I am a 4.5 and I've got two pairs of the campus trainers in a 4. I've also ordered the v-10 in a 4 but haven't tried those on yet.

championquartz · 11/12/2019 14:29

I'm a 6.5 and sized down in the V-10 to a 6 and they are perfect. I'm quite broad of foot too. They were not comfortable immediately. Bought them May 2018, they were comfortable May 2019. I stuck with them cos I liked the look of them. (I know Hmm )

Emma Hill did a good YouTube video about the different styles of veja trainers and how they fit; worth a watch.

Boxie123 · 11/12/2019 19:05

I'm also between a 5 and 6 and went for the 5 when I bought my V-10s. They fit really well.

I haven't found the length of the tongue an issue but they really aren't comfortable and I think they're going to need a lot of breaking in. The leather just really isn't supple at all and they feel very stiff.

But they look great!

Thankssomuch · 11/12/2019 20:02

They look fabulous, and are reasonably comfy now that I’ve worn them in, but that flipping tongue - as PPs have said - prepare to have skinned feet!

Redtoenails85 · 11/12/2019 20:57

Thank you all for the hugely helpful posts. Now I'm torn though! I feel like I have enough uncomfortable shoes. Trainers need to be comfy! Any other ideas for really comfy brands?

I have the Esplars and they took ages to break in, like proper shoes rather than trainers. I have very wide feet, and my usual size (4) was fine. I wear them with trainer socks, or opaque tights.

HickoryDickoryDot · 11/12/2019 21:43

I have a pair of Esplars, had them since Feb and worn very occasionally. The lining at the back of the heel has worn away now though, exposing the plastic underneath. They’re really uncomfortable to wear as a result.

Have contacted customer services as bought them direct from Veja and they’ve not been great. Initially refused to help saying it was wear and tear. I pointed out they’ve barely been worn and it’s not very sustainable for trainers to last less than a year. Still in touch with them about it.

So for that reason I don’t recommend them, although I do find them comfy and they didn’t need any breaking in for me. Such a shame Sad

Redtoenails85 · 11/12/2019 23:30

Thank you for those recent posts. Hmm it's not looking great is it? I don't normally spend that much on trainers either so it would be a shame for them to not feel great or wear out quickly. They look so good and I was also swayed by the ethical credentials so was willing to splurge a bit. Guess I should have a look around to see what else is out there.

I'm closer to a 6 than 5 and was advised when buying they come up big. The 6's I was walking out of and the 5's I couldn't walk in as so small. It's a shame as I really like the look of them. Another friend has had a pair all year and hasn't managed to wear them as she find them so uncomfortable too. She's closer to a 5 than a 6.

Sunshine1239 · 11/12/2019 23:50

I’m a normal size 5 and bought the 5 and they fit perfect so I’d say true to size

They were comfy from day 1 too!

Redact · 12/12/2019 00:08

I'm a size 4.5 and bought them in a 4. I find them really comfy! I didn't need to break them in and have had no issue with the tongue.

HickoryDickoryDot · 12/12/2019 00:13

I’m a 7 and bought a 7 and they fit fine. Some of the kids shoes go up to a size 6 for those with smaller feet though. Much cheaper too!

I was swayed by the ethical sustainable selling point too. Pretty disappointing to be told by customer services that they can’t repair them and to just return them, presumably to be binned. They did offer me a voucher to be used on their website but for the value of what I paid for the shoes. I got them in sale so would need to pay more for another pair which I’m really reluctant to do seeing as how these have worn. Frustrating.

Londoner99 · 12/12/2019 10:28

So I have a pair of Esplars and Campo. They are brilliant quality and very hard wearing. I'm also broad of foot but I'm a 6.5 and wear a 7. If you want a pair that don't need breaking in, try the Campos.

If you're still not sure about Veja then Superga is also pretty good.

mumdom · 12/12/2019 11:28

Paying three figures for uncomfortable - even injury causing - trainers made of unsuitable materials, fake sustainability claims, and shit customer service. Good grief, the things we do for fashion.

Oly4 · 12/12/2019 13:04

I have some size 7s and they are true to size but so uncomfortable, I can’t bear them! They lacerate my feet and I usually have no problems.
I’ve switched to Superga leather which are much more comfy

MerryDeath · 12/12/2019 14:39

i found the 5s way too small and 6 way too big. i bought some and never wear them. they aren't nice to wear.
