Pink hair or blonde?

Thinking of getting my hair dyed at the hairdressers. I'm a brunette and usually keep to that kinda colour range but am looking for something a bit different.

I've never seen myself as a blonde but I think if they get the colouring right it would be OK. But I'd love to go pastel pink! I actually think it might be a bit more wearable against my skin tone too.

But my main worry is -and perhaps if you've been pink before you might know- what if the colour fades/changes and goes orange ect...? Is that likely to happen? (And if so, could I easily just put a packet dye like purple or over it?)

And also, is it worse for the hair to dye it pink than just the stuff they use to make it blonde?

Which would you go with?

From my experience the pink doesn't last very long at all!

helparguement · 08/12/2019 00:21

Sorry I think you would need to be blonde first otherwise the pink wouldn't really show up - then the pink wouldn't last v long and then you'd just be blonde again. 🤷‍♀️

You'll need to bleach your hair light enough for pale pink first. I tried a Bleach London wash in wash out when I was platinum. You can get vegetables based colours like Manic Panic which I understand last longer than traditional pink chemical dyes.

I wouldn't risk doing it myself, would defo get it done professionally seen as bleach is involved. Yeah it will have to be lightened first (white blonde?) but I suppose if the pink colour won't last then maybe best just choosing a more suitable blonde after all.

To go pastel pink, you'll need to strip the colour out of your hair. If you have a lot of red tones in your hair, this is more difficult & often leaves your lifted hair with a yellow tinge. The pink fades really quickly, but you can buy things like Bleach London pink dyes to top it up. It's a big commitment if you go for your whole head being blonde / pink.

If it was pink I would just let it grow out naturally. Maybe dye over the pink part with purple myself as it grew.

But for blonde I think roots growing in would bother me. I'd probably go back to the hairdressers n have them dye it back to brown again xD so it might end up being less fun.

Not fussed about the commitment. So long as it doesn't ruin the hair xD think I'll get it cut shortish though so that it'll grow out fast.

Mine is pink currently. Hairdresser does the roots and I keep it fresh using rose gold shampoo and conditioner from Bleach London. Pretty easy.

If you want to go light blonde it's likely to take a few goes depending on your hair. Why not go blonde first and pink after it's light enough when you're bored of it? For what it's worth, toots and blonde hair still seems to be getting away with being a look currently.

If you want to be pastel pink, you will have to be light blonde first (level 9 or 10 as the hairdressers say). Anything less that this and the pink won't really show up.

If you are currently brunette, it will take several trips to the hairdressers to get to that level of blonde without your hair falling out, and you will probably need to be ginger for a little while as that's one of the undertones that dark hair has on the way to blonde.

Are you thinking full all over scalp bleach, or highlights?

MrsFrostyTheSnowman · 08/12/2019 08:34

Blonde first (mine is balayage so gets blonder but natural gingery roots)
I love the pink but it fades so quickly
I end up buying toners to turn it back pink or rose gold (when I can be bothered)
Great colour but neeeds regular maintenance

Sarcelle · 08/12/2019 08:49

What about stripes? Not keen on the hairstyle but I quite like the effect of the pimped up highlights.

Pink hair or blonde?

You need to be very, very light blonde to get pale pink. The first time my hairdresser did my pale pink, it washed out within a week. The second time, it’s stuck really well.

Those are really pretty. Think they might be a bit harsh on me though. But then again it might be less risky than full blonde.

higher further faster
What was different the second time? Did they go blonder first? Or just top up the pink?

Yes you have to be a pale blond to go pink.

I have used the Bleach London pink, which I liked, but it does go a peachy colour.

Recently I left Lush Daddyo shampoo on my hair for 30 mins and it went a bright pink.

It is also washing out to a peachy shade.

Girlintheframe · 09/12/2019 06:26

I have dark brown hair and was trying to go lighter (to hide the greys!) I just had highlights put in but my hair doesn't like it at all! My hair goes very dry and frizzy. It changed the condition of my hair so much that I would never lighten it again. (All done by hairdressers btw)
