Ugh! Help me. I have some gross brown oily scaly shit on my scalp.

It's mainly on the top of my head and it comes off like an oily greasy brown bit of skin. I can only take it off by scratching it off.

What the fuck is it and what can I do to get rid of it. I want to cry!

Is it product build-up? Have you tried a clarifying shampoo? or Vosene

Lifeaback · 04/12/2019 10:26

It could be product build up or a scalp condition- is your hair otherwise oily? I sometimes get little scab type things on my scalp and it gets really itchy and greasy, I use neutrogena t-gel for a few washes and it always sorts it out

It sounds like sebhorreic dermatitis.

I have this. If TGel shampoo doesn't work, try Nizoral (available at pharmacies)

peepobaby · 04/12/2019 17:37

I've googled seborrheic dermatitis and it looks like that! emwithme will it ever go away. Some of photos are bloody gross!

Also how do you actually get the stuff off the scalp. Do I scratch it off. If I wash my hair it's still there. It only comes off by mean scratching it off.

Is there a product that gets it off.

Babies often get that, I remember reading not to pick it off.

Raera · 04/12/2019 17:47

Ive had that.
Practice nurse prescribed Betacap, scalp application
Don't know if it's available OTC though
Took a bout 10 days to clear.

emwithme · 04/12/2019 18:26

The Nizoral does move it after a couple of weeks but honestly yes I pick at it because (a) I'm gross like that and (b) it's so damn itchy

peepobaby · 04/12/2019 19:03

Thanks I've just come across an article from a hospital that says I can remove it by putting loads of oil onto my hair ( almond/ coconut or something similar. ) Leave it in for a few hours / overnight then with a comb using circular motions take it off. Then wash hair.

Buy Nizoral. My dd got this last year after swimming all day on holiday and having a wet scalp. I only noticed as her head got smelly. Nizoral cleared it up in a couple of washes then she used it once a week for a bit to keep it at bay.
