Hi

My daughters christening is coming up soon and I'm finding it so hard to find anything I like!

I'd like to wear cream as I've heard it's traditional for mum to wear cream?

Also preferably a long sleeved wrap dress.. to hide my mum tum Sad

Any ideas?

I've never heard of a tradition for the Mum to wear cream.

Which denomination is this ?

The Church of England.

Ive had people tell me it's traditional although I'm aware it's not necessary.

I was just asking for suggestions as to where I could find a suitable outfit.

I just wore a nice dress for each of my DC's baptisms. Not as fancy as I'd wear for a wedding but a bit nicer than what I usually wear for church (which is sometimes just jeans and top).

DCs were each baptised during "normal" Sunday Mass.

Nothing traditional about cream! Cream for the baby’s outfit maybe? Mine had an embroidered silk cream dress and bonnet. Their names have been embroidered round the hem. I wore a coral suit for one and a pale grey embroidered dress for the other as they were at different times of the year. Just wear a lovely dress that can be washed if you are worried about dribble!

I also don't think there is a traditional colour for christenings. Even my dcs didn't wear all white / cream at theirs! It's usually a lot less formal than the ones you see on TV ime.

I wore a cotton navy, white and green print dress from M&S via eBay, with ballet flats for dc1 christening and brown, paperbag shorts with a navy top with lace bell sleeves and brown leather brogues for dc2's (earlier this year). People attending were fairly casual. Play suits etc.

I personally would avoid anything impractical, like white or high heels as it's a child friendly, daytime event. Depending on your circles of course. If you are minor royalty or something, then obviously go the whole hog, massive antique christening robe for the baby and so on.
