I thought I was pretty low maintenance, wear minimal make up, but a sucker for skincare and some haircare. I've just added up my spend online this year and it comes to £750... I'm horrified! What's your spend?

@BeatriceTheBeast I need to look at The Ordinary! I'm also on prescription Azaleic Acid, it hadn't occurred to me to just buy it. I'm postpartum at the moment so after not even needing the cream during pregnancy, I'm in that horrible hormone-rebalancing phase of falling hair, grotty skin and extra sweat, lovely.
I'm not counting Pilates towards hair and beauty! That's just general health, it would be like counting fruit and veg!

NotMeNoNo · 04/12/2019 15:59

My haircut and colour is £100 a time . I buy a few Bobbi Brown makeup bits but the rest is Aldi/superdrug including skincare.

TheAirbender · 04/12/2019 16:00

I don’t actually think under 100 per month, including hair is that bad op!

Me - 180ish hair every 4 weeks (very curly hair, greying, needs a curly hair specialist who is good with highlights). With naturally curly hair it’s my absolute non negotiable...

Botox every three months - aprox 150.

Skincare is just nivea/olay/the ordinary so probably no more than say 15 per month.

Since starting with botox I’ve got back to home mani/pedi to recoup the spend. All looks fine...don’t think I’ll ever go back.

Breast implants:) 6k a few years back

theBadcop · 05/12/2019 06:14

about £150 per year

DIY cuts (I am very curly and never found a hairdresser nearby who does dry curly cuts so taught myself via YouTube how to cut it), I spend £30 per year in henna power so just slap it one when I feel like.

my holy grail is the boots curl cream for 1.99 and a silicone free conditioner .

the rest gets spend on 'the ordinary', some mascara and lipstick.

that's it.

Danglingmod · 05/12/2019 06:26

Hair - zero. Wear it long and just get a (free) trim once a year from bil. Shampoo and conditioner, in supermarket shop with the whole family, something like Dove or Elvive, don't count that as a cost.

Make-up - I wear pricey ish foundation and mascara but lower prices eyebrow pencil and lipstick, so probably £130 a year.

Moisturiser - LRP, cleanser micellar water. Probably £80 pa? Sunscreen - LRP or Ultrasun, worn nearly daily but lasts forever, so £40?

No nails, waxing, treatments, etc etc... But £250-300 a year still sounds a lot really.

tangledyarn · 05/12/2019 06:35

Hair £35 cut three times a year plus home dye probably £30 a year.

Makeup probably £200 pounds a year. Use relatively expensive foundation and moisturiser otherwise not fussy and dont use loads.

Once a year I might have my eyelashes tinted and have had them lifted once so maybe £35.

Think that's it.

Yestermost · 05/12/2019 06:52

Wow not a lot compared to most on here.
Haircut 35x4 so 140
Make up about 30 a year
Shampoo 15 a year. Never moisturize as forget.
I'm lucky that I've never been that fussed about looks. I like occasionally dressing up but day to day am happy with how I look and not fussed with a few wrinkles.
Prefer to spend on doing more things (though of course others will have money for both!)

caranx · 05/12/2019 06:56

£100/year haircuts (2 monthly)
£100/year body wash (Simple)/moisturiser (Nivea)
£20/year Redken shamoo/conditioner

Used to try new products but they mostly aggravate my skin allergies so stopped. No makeup/perfume as ditto the allergies.

fantasmasgoria1 · 05/12/2019 06:58

£25 a month maybe. Perhaps a bit more if a new product I want to try has come out. Some stuff lasts ages so I don't need to buy every Month. Things like wipes I get for 35p from aldi. You can get cheap versions of bio oil which I find as good. I get prescription moisturiser for my body and use retinol face Cream.

Camomila · 05/12/2019 09:01

Allergies help!
I use cheap alberto balsam shampoo and conditioner, simple or sanex shower gell, and coconut oil (Aldi) for moisteriser.
My make up is usually tinted lip balm, brown/black mascara and under eye concealer. Shave legs/pluck eyebrows rather than get it done. Buy suncream in summer - share DSs sensitive kids stuff.

Experimenting with products usually ends up in hives/a rash!

I have thick curls so cut my own hair. I've got a short bob with a side fringe atm. The more I do it the more adventurus I get.

NiteFlights · 05/12/2019 10:34

This is why I’m determined not to start colouring my hair as it greys!

Spend about £200 getting my hair cut - that’s once a quarter but I need it every two months really, so it will be £300 in future I think.

I reckon I spend on average about £30/month on everything else - I tend to get my shampoo, body lotion, hand cream etc on 3 for 2 in Boots or on offer in the supermarket. Last year I bought a decent hairdryer, for £65, which is worth every penny.

If I had the cash I’d spend a lot more - I’d definitely get manicures and pedicures, although I can do my own pedicure very well - I don’t think there is anything wrong with spending on this stuff.

SoapCollector · 09/10/2023 15:53

@Camomila Do you also use the coconut oil for face cleansing? Also which smell of Alberto balsam do you use or are they all ok with sensitive skin? Just asking as prone to itchy skin and rashes here!

SoapCollector · 09/10/2023 15:59

Sorry just realized how old this thread is! Although it may be still relevant with the current cost of living prices of everything hair and beauty!

Daisy62 · 11/10/2023 16:22

Hairdresser bill drastically reduced since I went natural silver. Now £50 four times a year for cut and blowdry. Lashes uplifted every 5 weeks, £40. Tint eyebrows myself, IPL machine for legs. Clinique eye cream is my luxury product, Aldi 'caviar' moisturiser, make up No 7 or similar, lots of mid-range hair products. That's probably over £800 a year, am shocked! But I used to have hair coloured and blow dried every 3 weeks, at £60 a go, have made quite a saving, so that's something.

SoapCollector · 12/10/2023 19:28

Gosh it soon adds up doesn't it! Thanks for your reply @Daisy62

GettingStuffed · 12/10/2023 22:50

I have Dermatica, spend little on cleanser, toners and moisturiser as I'm using up stuff I got in Glossybox, ran out of Polaar arctic flower moisturiser yesterday and was looking to replace it but it's around £40.

I probably spend just over £100 on hair stuff, I have wavy hair and buy curly ranges.

I'm a cheap low maintenance girl
