I had my dd 7 months ago and As wonderful as she is she’s been an incredibly difficult baby and style has taken a real backseat. I just throw on the same old things and don’t really have time to worry about how it looks, just that it has easy boob access for dd. We’ve turned a huge corner this week as we’ve managed to crack putting her down for the night, and my lovely dh has booked me and my best friend into a very posh hotel for the night next week to give me something to look forward to and a whole night to myself away from the baby (still feeding constantly through the night when this was booked so this is a real treat). I had planned to just SLEEP but now I feel a bit more human I want to get back to a bit of a semblance of me. And have no idea where to start and limited opportunities to actually go shopping. We ended up in town yesterday and have pretty much sworn off shopping until into the new year, the shops were just too busy. So, I’m looking for some ideas that I can order online and be delivered fairly quickly.
I’m a 36, 14-16, 5’7 and fairly pear shaped. Very conscious of the baby belly so nothing too clingy. I’d like something I can feel good in, which I seem to equate with smart and timeless rather than bang on trend of that makes sense. Budget not especially an issue as I’ve been gradually selling my old things on eBay and have managed to save quite a bit. I’d like a nice coat and some tops and a few dresses, and a nice bag. And anything else pretty you can show me! I’d like to feel good when I go out next week and not mumsy like I’ve been feeling lately.

First of all congrats on baby, getting her down and having a lovely dh book you a treat.
I would buy:
A fab wool camel coloured coat -to me its chic and timeless.
A cashmere scarf of pashmina in a bold colour or print. These are great to add colour, distract from baby belly and good to have handy to drape over you while feeding.
Also get a pair of boots that you love since your feet and legs are prob a regular size and not as affected by shifting baby weight. And shoes always make an outfit imo.
Lastly get a classic white shirt. It won't show your tummy and can be worn a millon ways.
Pair all this with jeans, skirt or even leggings of your choice.
You will look great. Have a wonderful time

Agree with ^^
Just to add to that - what about a midi dress pared with the coat and boots (biker style).

I'm about the same size as you and I'd wear that, that's my non mumsy outfit but comfy still

I have no tips but wanted to say you aren't alone! DS is 19 months and started sleeping through recently. I'm yet to rediscover my sense of style so I'm following with interest!

This is exactly the kind of thing I mean, thank you. I’m after a really lovely coat I think. I didnt actually end up with baby weight to lose, I was back to my starting weight within a week thanks mostly to a horrible pregnancy, but my coats still feel a little snug, presumably as my boobs are that much bigger, plus my posture remains terrible due to the back and hip problems I’ve been left with. Has anyone seen a nice, fullish length coat that actually has some shape? The baggier stuff around at the moment does nothing for me

Hello another one to say you aren’t alone. I used to make an effort with appearance but that all went down the pan once I had a baby and I would just reach for whatever was on top of the clean washing pile..... it really affected my confidence.

I joined the what you are wearing today thread on here to force myself to make some sort of effort and it’s encouraged me to plan outfits and try new outfits out. It’s really supportive, so feel free to join in.

It’s also given me some inspiration & I love seeing what other real women are wearing. I don’t follow Insta influencers as they are often wearing stuff because they are paid to / get it free and Pinterest seems full of 19 year old size 6 models so obviously they look good in everything

I deliberately avoid Pinterest and instagram tbh. I don’t need to feel that pressure to try and keep up. It’s bad enough in real life, dd had a very difficult start and I constantly compared her to other babies I knew of her age whose mums didn’t seem to be struggling at all and I found it really difficult. I have no hope of living up to the things I see online! I went out last night and actually felt really good. I wore a black long sleeved, high neck top and grey pinafore dress with thick tights that I was really critical of when I put it on but dh convinced me and looking at the pictures people took I actually really like how it looked. I’m going to really try this week not to just do what I’ve done today and chuck on jeans and a jumper which I’m into wearing as it doesn’t matter if it gets dirty. I don’t actually like it and that’s the problem. I want to choose clothes again because I like them, not just because they’ll do
