Makeup for teens

yougotanology · 29/11/2019 08:28

I have 2 teens who love makeup - but very subtle and natural(ish!)

Can anyone recommend a 'must have' product for them?

One of them has a couple of glossier items - which are fab.

Neither of them have done their lists yet and I'm trying to get some bargains today!

Thank you.

If you w, and want to treat them to something nice, check out Shelbey Wilson's YouTube channel for recommendations. She prefers a natural look and mixes up high street and big brand items so you can see what she uses. She always looks very pretty and polished but doesn't do anything complicated or brightly coloured.

Thank you, though she is American so not all brands available in uk?

Quite possibly some are unavailable but I've noticed she uses a lot of names I recognise, like Bare Minerals and Charlotte Tilbury. I think it's probably the drug store stuff that we can't get easily, but the high end stuff shouldn't be too hard to get.

I'd stick to the Boots no 7 stuff or maybe Bourjois. Great offers on at the moment on Boots No 7.

Both are reliable brands and look a bit classier than the budget brands, a lot of which are great.

Urban Decay & Kat Von D are popular with teens & are good quality. UD have some nice palettes with mostly fairly natural colours & a few less subtle ones for party wear. They last well too. DD still uses tge one we bought last year

RockinHippy · 29/11/2019 11:24

I personally wouldn't recommend boots or Boujois fir a teen. DD & her mates refer to this & similar brands as "old lady make up"Hmm

artisanparsnips · 29/11/2019 11:29

I've just bought DD an eyeshadow palette from elf - they have some nice natural ones, and are entirely vegan. Got mine in Superdrug.

MurrayTheMonk · 29/11/2019 11:37

Mine like ELF, urban decay when they are getting makeup as a present, Benefit (same) and for skin care The Ordinary as it looks science-ey. (and isn't too expensive).

DD1 saved up last year and bought Jeffrey Starr eyeshadow palette thing for a gazillion pounds but mainly 'just to look at' (HmmGrinConfused)

Oh & Nix is a decent budget brand that teens around here like

Wildthyme · 29/11/2019 11:46

Urban Decay Naked Reloaded palette.
And definitely have a look at Mac for their neutrals.
Nyx and Revolution are good for cheaper make up.

Don't get them No7 yet, not until their 20s at least.

MikeUniformMike · 29/11/2019 11:49

It is, but they are reliable and rated brands, and are good for base products that are unlikely to cause breakots.

The budget ranges like Revolution might be more appealing for teenagers, and are budget-friendly.

I get most stuff from budget ranges (boots cyo and rimmel mainly but others too), and I'm definitely not a teenager.

Jellybott · 29/11/2019 17:37

Pixi and IT Cosmetics are both good if they like glossier.

ActualHornist · 29/11/2019 18:01

MUA (super cheap from superdrug) have dupes of the Cloud Paint by Glossier.

Not much of a treat but you could get them all really! www.superdrug.com/Make-Up/Face/Blusher/MUA-Blushed-Liquid-Cream-Blusher-Misty-Rose-001/p/777570

UD Naked 2 or 3 are great if they like eyeshadows.

ActualHornist · 29/11/2019 18:02

I also wouldn't go for No 7 - bit 'old' and also the products are really heavily fragranced. Everything from there irritates my skin.
