Bra shop recommendations Edinburgh City Center

Hi I am going to Edinburgh on a shopping trip shortly and wonder if anyone can recommend any less mainstream underwear shops within walking distance of City Centre? We don’t have any nice underwear shops where I live and I am tall so bra straps really dig in my shoulders and I am also over weight with a fat back so John Lewis/M&S are no good as the backs aren’t big enough. My current bra has an extended strap but it’s not really very comfortable.

Thanks

www.bravadounderwear.co.uk/

Bravado is not in the centre but not too far out. 30min walk or quick bus ride from West End.

Knowledgable staff and good selection.

Morningside and Bruntsfield are nice areas for shops and cafes anyway.

Should have said but you probs know that Bravisimo is in Multrees Walk near Harvey Nicks.

Thanks Nothingfallingdowntoday but think Bravisimo is just for big cups not big back sizes?
Nothingfallingdowntoday - that sounds ideal but unfortunately I am going on a shopping trip with friends so it will be meet up again in half an hour or we’ll all go.

What size are you wearing just now op? A huge number of people wear too hig a band and too small a cup which makes backfat worse. I suspect you are in this camp.

I'm Edinburgh based, the bravissimo is very good

If you want a rough idea so you know if you're remotely within bravissino range, do you have a tape measure? If so....
Measure underneath your boobs firmly - this should be a tight measurement
Now, braless, bend over to as close to 90 degrees as you can so that your boobs are hanging down. Measure round the biggest part (normally round the nipples but not fir everyone). You shouldn't be compressing the breast tissue with this second measurement

Those two will let me give you a reasonable idea of true size

I did get measured properly then put weight on. I think the cup size is ok just that was the biggest back size. But will check I am downstairs can’t sleep have a horrid cold so letting DH sleep.

Bravissimo sells D cups

StatisticallyChallenged · 30/11/2019 19:40

Where did you get measured

Daddylonglegs1965 · 30/11/2019 19:58

It was an underwear shop in a small town near me

Thanks just checked Bravissimo and whilst they do D the biggest back size is a 40 and I think I am probably a 42 unfortunately

Other than Bravissimo your best bet is the John Lewis in Edinburgh which is pretty good. It's also very close to the Bravissimo so if they suggest you are in the Bravissimo range then I would pop in there too.

A lot of shops measure an old fashioned way - too big in the band, too small in the cup. It results in bras which give backfat and can bizarrely feel tight but actually need more cup space. At a baseline, your back size should be your underbust measured tightly in inches (no adding!) but it's not uncommon for slightly larger ladies to actually need a smaller band than they measure. The band should be doing all the work - your shoulder straps digging in suggests they're taking a lot of the weight.

Not Edinburgh but theres a bra shop with branches in Stirling and Bathgate that's really good.

Daddylonglegs1965 · 02/12/2019 22:33

Thanks both. We are not from Scotland so it will only be Edinburgh not Stirling.

I agree that you are likely wearing the wrong bra size. The back fat is a clear sign your cup is too small.

You could probably go down in the back as you go up in the cup, and get a better fit. So a 40 D becomes something like a 36 F or G.

It’s likely Bravissimo will be a revelation if they fit you into a better size.

BlueSkyAtChristmas · 03/12/2019 00:11

Oh the bra strap digging in is another classic sign you are wearing the wrong size. I’m very tall and that shouldn’t happen. Is the bit between your breasts sitting flat to your breastbone or sticking out (it shouldn’t stick out) and are the sides digging in, or band at the back riding up?

Please, please book for a fitting at Bravissimo! I’m pretty sure that you are wearing the wrong size bra!
