How to learn to put on make up!

Need a little help - I'm 35 now and never really figured out how to put make up on properly! I don't really know what to buy and usually just go for primer, eyeshadow (applied in the 90s way of course!) and mascara with some powder. I'm sick of not looking nice and I see my friends with the most gorgeous make up looking nicely polished and I want to look like that!

Where do I start!?! I'm a redhead so pale skin and blue eyes.

First of all get a beauty blender sponge if you are using liquid foundation, use it damp.
Learn to do very light contouring. Nothing like the videos people post on YouTube.
Brown eyeshadow will suit your colouring and are nice and neutral. I'm also pale and ginger and I use pinky/brown shades for my eyes.
I always think a bit of blusher is better than none.
You also need a good base foundation and a powder that won't clump. The best I've found is mac. Sometimes if I don't want a heavy coverage I mix it Wath a little bit of moisturiser.

Use the sponge damp, not the foundation 🤦‍♀️

YouTube blogs will be your friend here.

I use bare minerals foundation. Its applied as a powder but is actually a foundation. Go to debenhams to one of their counters and ask them to match you up with the right colour. I put their mineral veil over the top and it gives me a nice even coverage without looking like I've got it caked on.

I'd look at videos on YouTube- Lisa Eldridge is very good and does lots of different looks. I don't bother with contouring myself so can't comment on that, but I have learned various techniques from YouTube over the last few years.

Definitely tutorials! I really like Hannah Martin, she posts YouTube videos and Instagram videos which are really clear and easy to follow. You could also see if there are any make up masterclasses running near you, they often do them at places like John Lewis. I’ve also heard good things about Trinny London make up consultations, though I’ve never done one myself.

Go to boots and get skin matched. They will then match up blusher, concealer etc to suit your colouring.

Also another vote for YouTube tutorials.

You could pay a make up artist for a lesson

A lot of beauty counters will do makeup lessons - they do one side of your face, you do the other. Pretty sure Bobbi Brown still does them. Cost is usually redeemable for product.

I like this tutorial - when I followed it, I got lots of compliments at work but people couldn't figure out what was different.
