Ideas for a newly slim 40 year old man

I'm trying to find a nice Christmas present for my DBro. Over the course of the last year, he has lost 5 stone and gone from a 38/40 waist to 32/34. He looks fab and I'm very proud of him.

Anyway, he has been overweight his whole adult life and has only really ever worn t-shirts and loose jeans from Next. I would like to buy him a couple of nice things to wear.

I'm thinking smart casual, so nice trousers and a shirt? Something like that, not jeans. He's got a couple of nice jumpers, but nothing to really go underneath them.

Any suggestions? DH is very much Man At M&S, and so isn't much help!

Aw well done to your dbro!

My brother sometimes struggles with his weight, but somehow manages still to look good when a bit chubby Hmm. Recently he has really got into shape and looks fantastic. Not just slim, but a totally different shape, like someone you'd see in a magazine. He still wears what he always wore though, which is the odd trendy thing, but mainly rugby shirts and jeans.

No help at all, except that you might find he doesn't want to change his style very much..? Maybe some really excellent quality basics, like decent pair of jeans or some shirts for work / going out. A friend of mine has shirts made for him somewhere on Saville Row. That would be a bit spendy, but a nice idea.

DH is tall and slim and likes Reiss clothes

How much are you willing to spend? Maybe club together with other family members and get him vouchers for a good tailor? A good suit is a lifetime investment. Can even be inherited.

Depends on your budget but I’d suggest looking at Reiss, Ted Baker, Hugo Boss, Paul Smith and Ralph Lauren for stylish basics. You can often find Ralph Lauren at TK Maxx (online rather than rummaging through the rails) for more sensible pricing.

If your budget doesn’t reach that high, I’d get yourself to Top Man (I have a slim and stylish 40yo DH btw)
