What to wear to the ritz ?

I'm off for tea at the Ritz in a couple of weeks. What to wear ??
If it was summer, I wouldn't have a problem. But, it's probably going to be cold & wet. After tea we will be walking to see the lights. So I need to be warm & comfortable ( no high heels !) But still look smart. I don't want to spend a lot of money on an outfit. Suggestions please. Thank you .

I had afternoon tea at the ritz on October. I wore leggings, a dress and some boots. Also had a black coat on. There is a cloakroom for coats etc. Have fun....it was amazing!

Tell us a bit about yourself, age, shape, colours, style etc.

Wear trousers and a nice blouse with jewelry. Then wear a coat and scarf etc. Flats and fashion boots are fine. I think men are required to wear a tie and jacket.

We went to the Ritz last Christmas for afternoon tea.
I wore a short skirt, leggings and a jumper.
Have a great time.

You don't need anything special for tea at The Ritz - just whatever you're comfortable in. Jacket and tie for men, and no jeans.

@ineedto
Yes I guess that would help !
I'm 50, size 10, 5'5 height.
The trouble with the trousers i already have, they really won't go with ankle boots & I'm worried just wearing flat pumps will leave me with cold feet.
Tried some skirts with tights & ankle boots as suggested by my daughter but I look ridiculous ( mutton & lamb spring to mind ).

Not really worried re the dress code as such, it's that I want to look smart & comfortable at the same time & I can't seem to get the 2 things to correlate

How about a wrap dress with thick tights or leggings and knee boots with a warm coat and big scarf?
Or wool trousers with ankle boots, a smart blouse and cardigan.

Will you have a small backpack or similar? You can leave walking boots/trainers in the cloakroom and wear shoes, then change back to trainers

I don't know what your size and height have to do with anything!

sometimesalways · 25/11/2019 17:43

Would you wear a smart flat, like brogues or derbies? They can look very smart with nice pair of trousers and a blouse, but also very comfortable

gillys · 25/11/2019 17:48

@newdeer
I like the sound of a wrap dress. Don't currently own one so will have a look about. Don't suppose you recommend any at all ?
