My life is quite stressful (lone parent, stressful job, no social life, etc) and having nice clothes has always been my one indulgence. I have recently bought a few nice things and also decluttered my wardrobe, but I am finding that I keep thinking “if I just found that perfect coat, perfect right on trend boots, maybe another dress” my wardrobe would be perfect and I would be so much happier... I know that’s nonsense and I am supposed to be saving, not splashing out. Please talk some sense into me!!!

Oh I do this too. Currently waiting for my new coat to be delivered and already looking at scarfs to go with it. Each new item opens new opportunities doesn’t it.
Are you saving for something specific or for security? I’m quite goal driven so I guess I would set a savings target to aim for to get the buzz.
In the mean time I’m googling Marc Jacobs Snapshot bags Wink

I'm really sorry, this isn't what you wanted to hear, but I'm exactly the same. I don't have advice but can empathise.

I'm always searching for the perfect item. Which obviously doesn't exist. 🙄

WhatIsTheStarsJoxer · 24/11/2019 19:22

I am also the same. I have vowed off NEW, new clothes, as of this weekend. So, I'm only allowed to shop on ebay secondhand or charity shops. I think still being able to shop, but only ever secondhand will still give me the much needed boost I sometimes feel I need, but with less guilt.

I'm only a day in...

Planning to keep it up for at least six months...wish me luck!

WhatIsTheStarsJoxer · 24/11/2019 19:24

Oh but if something like a pair of trainers wears out completely, I will replace. I have had mixed results with secondhand shoes, so I'm hesitant to vow off them entirely. But only if I genuinely need them because an old pair have had to go to recycling.

I’m like this. However in July l decided not to buy any clothes and focus on paying off clothes related debts. I have a degree in fashion and bloody love clothes.

But it was really surprisingly easy. And I’ve stayed that way. I still buy but not like before. And l feel much better and in control. It all seems a bit sad now wasting money on clothes. I wish l’d kicked the habit years ago.

The world didn’t end, no one noticed whether l had new clothes are it.

I think the word on looking for is liberated!

The good news is, I just 'won' a lovely looking leather jacket for £15! Obviously, I'll hold off on the victory parade till I see it, but, you know.

I am just starting the journey of no more buying, de-cluttering and listing lots on eBay, I felt out of control with the amount I was buying and it felt hopeless so had to break the habit, it’s early days but hope my mindset has changed for good now!

I'm in exactly the same boat. I was going mad a bit. So unnecessary really, but it's such a lovely hobby, buying clothes Sad.

Hopefully charity shops will be my new hobby! I just need to get into it and find the time to look.

MoltoAgitato · 24/11/2019 19:38

I try and have a one in, one out policy. So only buying if it’s a replacement, or if I want something new, then something I am no longer wearing needs to go on eBay, to a charity shop or recycling.

WhatIsTheStarsJoxer · 24/11/2019 19:39

I have made just under £100 on ebay this weekend as well! I don't even want to think how much everything I sold cost new, but it doesn't matter, to a point.

Ponks · 24/11/2019 19:46

OP I do the exact same thing, with skincare as well. I see something I want, obsess about it and rationalise the purchase as being exactly what I'm after.. which it never is, and the next must have thing comes along. I'm good at sending clothes back though if they aren't right. The problem for me is that the body underneath isn't right and no clothes are going to make me suddenly look like Audrey Hepburn 😂. No magic skin cream is going to make me look 22 again!

Notcontent · 24/11/2019 20:17

OK - so I feel slightly better to know that it’s not just me!

A word of warning - buying second hand can be a bit of a trap too. I have some very good charity shops near me, so went through a stage when I used to buy stuff there constantly (for a guilt free “hit”) and ended up with lots of things that were very nice but didn’t fit me properly or just didn’t suit me, etc.

Oh yes, that is another worry op! Ebay shoes used to be my downfall. So cheap compared to the shops!

I really should just ease off buying clothes altogether and find another hobby! But, the heart wants what the heart wants Grin.
