Is this colour OK?

I just had a lovely facial, really nice. I had a heavy seed eye mask on while the beautician put the steam machine on.
It was only when I was getting dressed when I saw the machine itself.
Is this colour of water OK? Is it some kind of special "thing", or is it just dirty?
Not in the UK, and this industry is hardly regulated. Everthing else looked lovely and clean.

Is this colour OK?

If it's just a facial steamer it should just be deionised water. It would be unusual to add anything else to the water as it could clog the machine, so I would be a little concerned.

Yes, it's a bit grim, isn't it? Is it just dirt?

@ ugggghhhhh
I was thinking some kind of green tea cleanser thing, or dirt.

It doesn't look like dirt to me, did it have any scent to it while it was on? Must be some type of cleaner solution.

chatnicknameyousuggested · 22/11/2019 22:40

No, no scent at all.

It does look a bit vile OP but you can't imagine they'd leave it on display like that if it was dank water. I have no idea what it is but surely it can't be?! It had to be something they've added for some purpose.

chatnicknameyousuggested · 22/11/2019 23:22

Well, my eyes were weighed down...
No, I suppose not, but it does look a bit stagnant-pondy!

Is it a busy place? It's possible it's stagnant water, I can't think why else it would be that colour. You have to be careful what goes in those machines so they don't clog/limescale up so I'd be surprised if anything had been added to the water

Is the local tap water slightly tinged? My guess is that that water will have been boiled a lot, so as to use the steam. Any impurities that are in the tap water will have been left behind. I'm just basing that on the reasoning behind the advice never to make up baby bottles water that's been boiled twice. The steam would have been pure.

You're not supposed to put tap water in them. They might have of course, but they should only be used with deionised water.
