I need help, I have been invited to husband's work do, dress code is "dress to impress". I am hugely overweight and have no confidence, this will be my first time meeting all his colleagues.
I am large all over but the main problem areas are tummy and bum/hips, what can I wear so I look okay?
Oh and i really cannot walk in heels, i look like a newborn giraffe.

How about this one

The colour would look gorgeous on you. With some Block heels?

CheekyFuckersDontGetPastMe · 21/11/2019 22:12

Love the bombshell website

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 21/11/2019 22:28

That Scarlett and Jo dress is gorgeous and would be very flattering.

Try JD Williams for dresses, I’m particular Joanna Hope or Nightingales. Don’t know how to do links but here are a couple of pics

(The first dress is Joanna Hope, the second Nightingales)

Oops sorry, just saw you didn’t want anything long. But I really like the long navy Scarlett & Jo dress someone linked to earlier. Depends how you feel about your legs. I think you can get away without tights in longer dresses.
You do have beautiful hair, by the way!

OxiBrilloRange · 21/11/2019 23:13

You would look amazing in a Lindy bop!

Add some snag tights and shoes of your choice... you'd be stunning!

If you go for the green one and can manage block heels I saw some lovely gold block heels (low) in clarks

The German website Navabi is terrific for lovely dresses. They often have sales on and I buy a lot of my clothes from them.

Localocal · 27/11/2019 21:30

I am about the same size as you and I like the Simply Be catalog. Plus size clothing is just cut for us curvy gals better than big sizes of high street designs. I like a dress with a high waist and a flowing knee length skirt. Just make sure it has a waist seam so you don't look like your tummy sticks out as far as your bust. Good luck - I'm sure you are and will look beautiful!

CasanovaFrankenstein · 27/11/2019 22:16

There are some great suggestions here OP and I think you're going to rock it! When is the party, can you order a few options & have a try on session, or go shopping, a lot of these are high st shops? I'd definitely go for a deep v unless you find something that fits in just the right way as I find anything round/slash necked can make my boobs look out of proportion. I'd go for jewel tones in greens and purples. That dress on the Debenhams website is gorgeous and I'm soooo tempted to try it, such a bargain!

And I second micronet tights, they are very flattering.

Maverick66 · 28/11/2019 01:29

Op I think you would look f.a.b.u.l.o.u.s in the velvet bombshell one.
Please share a pic when you decide. I think you have a fabulously proportioned figure!

Tweakie · 28/11/2019 13:08

Look at Scarlett and Jo - they are great, especially if you have an ample bosom

chergar · 09/12/2019 13:32

Hi all and thanks for all your help, I wore this dress, with nude tights and sandals with a small heel, I don't have any photos of me wearing it but I felt good in it and my husband thought I looked great Grin

The Scarlett and Jo Marilyn dress is hugely flattering, and you would look knockout in it.
