Reusable period pads

I have some and wouldn't recommend them - certainly not the ones I have. They are closed with a press stud but are then loose and move backwards and forwards on the gusset of the knickers so you often don't get protection where you need it.

Unless anyone else has had a different experience, I would go with the period pants so the protection stays where you need it.

I've tried several brands over the years and my favourites are imse vimse. They stay put in your pants, are leak proof and not bulky and easy to wash and dry. Earthwise girls website has a good selection of different brands.

I have a really heavy period but find these are amazing and don't leak. They're fastened by a press stud but stay in place well. When used I keep them in a little bag in my bathroom and then sling them in the washing machine on a cool wash when my period has finished. I also pop them in the tumble drier so I definitely don't take care of them and I've had them for about three years now.

There’s a MNer who runs a business called Kraken Kreations selling reusable pads, make up wipes, bespoke hand crafted bags etc.

I haven’t actually bought from her but I follow her FB page and she’s a fucking legend!

Her stuff is all bold and colourful (and she makes sweary embroidered hoops!)

I’m sure there will be reviews of her pads on her site (linky above) so maybe check it out and support a fellow viper’s business!!

I've used them for about 12 years, I like HonourYourFlow ones but it is very individual. I have endometriosis so I cannot wear a tampon/menstrual cup for the first 2 days because of the pain.

For your DD I would start by getting one each from a different brand to see what she gets on with.

I do not soak mine or rinse them, they go in a zipped bag designed for reusable nappies/pads and then I put them in with a towel wash as that has dettol laundry and no fabric conditioner in it. Then I tumble dry them with the towels.

Another Imse fan here, we liked the garden print best . What I particularly like about them is the fact they're organic cotton, cannot stand the cheap feel of microfibre /polyester/fleece /minky topped type myself.

Thank you! @Melissa my DD has a chronic illness and is bed bound and also has extremely heavy painful periods ( we think she has endometriosis). She needs pads for 10-14 days a cycle. She is hypersensitive to touch and to fabric so we are trying to find comfortable alternatives.

Bloom and Nora pads are excellent. They are soft and you hardly know you are wearing them. They wash well and I have had no leaks like I used to.

After having a positive experience of reusable nappies I've been really disappointed with these. I found they wouldn't stay in place at all and kept slipping upside down. Reading online apparently you need knickers of the right width, yeah I'm really going to bring a ruler out with me when I buy knickers

I would definitely contact Kraken Kreations then - she suggests emailing her to talk about your needs and then she can make them specifically longer or wider, in a fabric of your choice, to fit your specific criteria, not an off-the-shelf product.

They’re £10-12 each, don’t know how that compares to others? But for a bespoke product that seems pretty good to me.

I use Cheeky Wipes ones along with their period pants. No complaints!

I have just got the Hey Girls ones. I live in Scotland and the government are giving them away as part of a free trial to reduce waste so am looking forward to trying them.

I use Cheeky Wipes too - the fleecey ones. I absolutely love them - they're so comfortable, don't move at all and wash really well.

Have you considered something like some period pants?

I'm actually wearing some modibodi period pants today. This month is the first time I've tried them, and so far I'm quite impressed - they seem to be absorbing everything, and it feels like I'm just wearing ordinary knickers - very comfy.

I found the cheeky wipes pads a bit bulky feeling, but maybe that's just the higher absorbency ones.

@PiedImperial haven't but have looked at them. Trouble is her flow is incredibly heavy and she's hypersensitive to many fabrics ( can only have cotton and that has to be washed at least 10 times when new to remove all the chemicals) so kind of assumed that period pants would be no good. Hoping that reusable pads would work with her existing knickers that she isn't sensitive to

I would certainly recommend Honour Your Flow. Terrible name but don't let that put you off! Have been using for a year, very comfy and lots of different sizes.
