What's the EASIEST way to style naturally wavy/curly/frizzy hair nice and sleek with a bit of bounce at the ends?

I am cack-handed and have no patience with styling hair.

Tried the Curly Girl Method for a while with my curly/wavy hair but it just doesn't suit me.

Hair is longish (past my shoulders) with a fringe. I like it best when I have it blow-dried fairly straight but with a bit of a bounce/wave at the ends - or elongated beachy waves.

What's the most basic technique that I might be able to master? Willing to buy any tools/products necessary, and to watch any good youtube tutorials!

I have GHDs and Babyliss tongs, and am about to buy my 2nd Babyliss Big Hair after my old one conked out - I rely on it for my fringe. I have tried it on the rest of my hair but found it didn't smooth out the frizz, and I didn't know how to get the waves at the ends. All the tutorials I've seen involve "rough drying" first - which is fine if you have straight hair but leaves mine too frizzy.

Help!

Why don't you just diffuse it ? You will obvs need product ! I have super curly hair and just diffuse it and sometimes wear the top bit in a ponytail if it's not going to plan .

I get a weekly blowdry at a salon very close to my house. I get the first appointment so no waiting. Then by day 5 I use the dry shampoo going to bed and it works well until day 7. It’s my weekly treat.

I don't dry my roots first and it works fine. I find it's better to touch my hair as little as possible before using the one step.

Diffusers have always equalled masses of frizz for me, the op wants smooth hair!

I have curly hair ,, if I want curly hair I diffuse , if I want smooth hair I straighten. ..

You need a Dyson Airwrap - it's the only thing I have ever been able to style my thick, tendency towards frizz, naturally wavy hair with that actually looks like it does when I leave the hairdresser.

If I can use it anyone can.

emcla That's so tempting. Where do you live? I'm in London so not sure how cheaply I could get that done. My mum's done that all her life!

oohnicevase I can diffuse my hair curly but it's not what I'm after. Thanks though.

Chequerboard Air Wrap looks good but is so expensive. I've bought the Revlon and will persevere with that for now!

I have recently found a routine that works for me- natural blends shampoo and conditioner then free ease serum. Hair put in a bun to sleep. Next morning I use the babyliss big hair to do sections of the now mostly dry but quite tame hair and then straighten. Takes about 20 minutes and my hair is so smooth. This has taken a very very long time to get right!

Shetlandponyranger · 25/11/2019 20:59

Should add- I might run a little serum through after straightening and then the. I guys between hair washes (normally wash every 3 days) I braid my hair and have lovely beach waves the next morning, or two buns for a more curled look

Hi lawn. I’m in Ireland. My mum and most of her friends get it done too. I sometimes go to the hairdressers with it washed and it’s super quick. I’m ready to go for the week. I get loads of compliments. I never have to worry about it if I’m going anywhere as it’s done. My hair doesn’t take to daily washing as it’s dry and a little coarse. I also have a loyalty card for the salon so I get the odd free one. It’s €22. I could get it done cheaper but would have to travel further. The hairdresser says that lots of ladies get it done weekly. I thoroughly recommend it.

Dyson airwrap is the only tool that smooths my hair - it's not coarse but rarely smooth looking. I use all the attachments, hairdryer, curling thingies, brush and round brush - so yes it is a lot of money but you're effectively getting 4 things in 1.

Thanks all, am working my way through the tips.

Alfr I love the idea of hacks like yours but they never quite work on me! However I'm trying your bun trick today - will report back ...

Update!

Tried the bun trick - it worked better than I expected - hair looked pretty similar to my natural curls but a bit more regular. Not what I was looking for but I'd do it again if not going anywhere - I'll try a lower bun next time and maybe looser if possible.

I tried the Revlon volume tool from wet a couple of times - not great tbh, straight but still fairly frizzy, not smooth and glossy like after a salon blow dry. Had to use straighteners afterwards. I then used a wand for curly ends which looked great but dropped and frizzed a bit when I went out. And the heat damage from a 3-stage process must be massive.

I've asked for the Dyson Air Wrap for Xmas but don't know if I'll get it! Any other tips in the meantime gratefully received!
