Which shampoo after keratin treatment?

I had a keratin treatment (nano-intense I think) at the weekend. I need sulphate-free shampoo. I really don’t want to spend a fortune. Are there any non-pricey ones that do the job? And what about conditioner? Do they contain sulphate too?

Cantu is available in Boots and usually on offer. Really good and sulphate free.

Great. Thank you. Are all their products sulphate free?

Yes they are, and the conditioners are silicone free as well. Should work well for your hair.

Thanks!

Just be careful they are sodium free, it's the salt in shampoos and conditioners which stop Brazilian blow dries working.

How do I check that? Is there something in particular to look for in the ingredients? I’ve just ordered the cantu shampoo and conditioner.

The main ingredient to watch out for is sodium laureth sulphate - it's the agent which causes shampoo to be foamy. Any shampoo with this ingredient will undo your keratin treatment.

I recommend Mixed Chicks shampoo and leave in conditioner, also Oil of Argan shampoo by OGX which is always on offer in Boots and most supermarkets.

If it says sulphate free surfactants am I safe?

I believe so!

@zippyswife I have thought about having this treatment for a while as I haVe thick, wavy, prone to frizzy hair! If I had proper curls I’d leave it but seems to be not one thing or another. Can I ask how you feel about yours, does it look much better? Did it take quite a while to do?

zippyswife · 19/11/2019 11:52

It is very smooth and sleek so far (I have insane coarse frizzy hair) but I haven’t washed it yet. I will update you then!

Oh how exciting, I dream of smooth and sleek!!!

zippyswife · 19/11/2019 14:11

Me too! I have a suspicion it’ll be back to Frizzy straw when I wash it tomorrow! Will let you know!

Hask is sulphate free and really reasonable. I got it after a recommendation from Caroline Hirons and think it's great. It’s currently on offer in Superdrug

Janus · 22/11/2019 19:51

@zippyswife can I ask how your hair is after the first wash?!

zippyswife · 22/11/2019 21:00

You certainly can. So when I rough dried it it was certainly less frizzy-still frizz there but I’d say 70% less frizz. It only took 7 mins to dry from dripping wet (it would normally take at least 30 mins). Then it took less than 5 mins to straighten (it would normally take at least 20) and it is now soft and swishy and like a normal human beings hair instead of a dry coarse brittle dry mess. So... it’s not a miracle... it does require an element of care but my god it’s so much better- soft swishy normalhair with minimal effort. I’ll be getting it done again.

@Janus I think if your hair is more normal than mine you could probably just wash abs leave. Mine is super coarse/frizzy so does require a bit more care.

That’s an amazing difference, I shall enquire! Thank you.
