GHD Air vs Parlux

I currently have a very battered Mark Hill hairdryer that's about ten years old and I suspect is on its last legs. I'm thinking of treating myself to a 'decent' hairdryer. A Dyson is out of the question, budget about £100.

I'm thinking of buying either the Parlux 3500 ionic compact or the GHD Air. Anyone got either and care to share their experience? Are premium hairdryers really worth the extra £££? Are other Parlux models worth considering?

Following with interest, I've saved my birthday money for Black Friday, would love a Dyson but they are so expensive, I'd have an airwrap if money was no object
Have been told parlux are good but I dont know which models are best

Anyone?

Never used either personally but have had both used on my and discussed them with the stylists as I'm looking too. Consensus was Parlux was too heavy, GHD was the best.

My Parlux is fast at drying my super thick hair and there is an extra smoothing/shine element that I haven't had with standard hairdryers. I do find that it has a tendency to tangle my hair as I'm drying though. I suppose because the airflow is so strong (?) but I've never heard anyone else mention this.

I'm always getting new hairdryers, must have had 4 in 10 years.
Last Xmas I got the most powerful Parlux they do, it's really good.
If I put it on the fastest and hottest settings, I can dry my hair in 5 mins. I wash it every day so wanted something that would be really fast.

BringMeTea · 18/11/2019 22:37

I have the ghd and don't rate it. Heavy and not very powerful. Cold setting not cold enough.

Girlintheframe · 19/11/2019 06:57

I have a Paralux (not sure which model). I do like it but find it very 'blowy' which I find difficult as my hair has a tendency to frizz

Love my Parlux- I've got the 385 Power Light and it's great.

MinesaPinot · 19/11/2019 13:14

My GHD recently gave up the ghost. I wasn't keen and wouldn't rush to get another one. I'm using our Babyliss one which I usually take on holiday as it's a bit lighter. It is doing the job I must admit, although the nozzle bit has a tendency to just fall off (and shoot under the bed!)

My hairdresser is using the ETI Turbo Dryer 2000 (it's rose gold and lush!) which she is liking. I had a test and it doesn't feel as heavy as some so am tempted as she's got a couple of sale in the salon. At £38 it's not too expensive either.

Scattyhattie · 19/11/2019 19:28

The GHD air appears to be 1.54kg so quite heavy compared to 510g for parlux 3500 ionic.

I've a pretty Parlux Alyon and I love how light & quiet it is compared to my very old babyliss, oddly it doesn't feel like parlux blasts air as much but it does dry my thick hair quicker & with a little effort looks much smoother than could manage before. I have dried it with a dog blaster out of desperation once, that speed definitely tangles Grin

Lamentations · 19/11/2019 20:22

I'd replace my Parlux 3800 ionic in a heartbeat if it broke.

Srictlybakeoff · 19/11/2019 20:29

I have a parlux at home and it definitely dries my hair more quickly than a normal hairdryer. I wouldn’t change it now. I have a travel ghd hairdryer which is great too, and better than any “ normal” hairdryer I have had. It’s much lighter to use than the parlux but not as powerful . That’s maybe not helpful - depends on your hair

RowenaMud · 19/11/2019 20:53

I find the same.

I like it the dryer and definitely miss my own one if I’m staying somewhere and using theirs. The reason I bought Parlux originally was because one of the selling points was it was quiet. There really isn’t a noticeable difference in volume. It is fast though and because I have quite thick hair, it dries without ever having that faint smell of burning that I usually hot from hairdryers after having them on for too long a time.

I think abc are doing the air wrap in three interest 4 free easy pays of £112 per month just now if that helps? Still to dear for me right enough Smile

Elieza · 19/11/2019 21:01

QVC. Stupid spell check.

MustardScreams · 19/11/2019 21:05

I’ve had my GHD air for years and it’s honestly brilliant. Not too heavy, dries my long, thick hair in under 10 mins. Doesn’t frizz too much afterwards. Highly recommend.

emma6776 · 20/11/2019 21:00

I love my Parlux. GHD driers are very heavy.

FredaFox · 21/11/2019 07:10

Does the airwrap dry as well as the dyson supersonic if only using as a hairdryer? Ie not using the attachments?

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 21/11/2019 14:07

Parlux, absolutely brilliant.

SophieGiroux · 21/11/2019 14:20

I'm happy with my ghd dryer. I don't think it's too heavy.

Lhastingsmua · 21/11/2019 21:01

GHD air is okay.

I have used it since 2014, repurchased it last year. My initial one became faulty (after normal use) it would intermittently make loud screeching noises, randomly shut off, made a humming noise in the background when on etc. This was just after the warranty expired, so GHD refused to look at it/repair it at my expense.

I repurchased it, but I feel like the same issues are happening already which is disappointing. I just feel like it deteriorates quite quickly.

Other than that, it’s fine. The weight is bearable, however if I wash my hair late at night when I’m super tired it does become tedious.
