Saggy baggy horrid face- no surgery solutions please

DaveHedgehogSpudgun · 17/11/2019 16:50

God I saw my reflection in the mirror today and could have cried.

Saggy, bags under eyes, washed out, just proper knacked looking.

I have a four year and and 9 months old twins and we are genuinely in week five of illness in our house. (All seems to have caught a virus a week after each other.)

Twins were sleeping through and now wake up multiple times a night a piece. Sleep is a big factor in this but until we're all well I've got to plough through, but how can I make myself look better?

Please suggest me some gadget, anything you have used that genuinely works.

My routine currently is just basic day cream with spf and then some make up to cover the tiredness Grin

Anyone used facial rollers? Should I be using a facial brush? Any suggestions are very welcome!!

The Superdrug toner mentioned up thread is excellent! I normally buy all my skincare from space nk but that toner is the

VioletCharlotte · 17/11/2019 20:25

The facial exercises really do seem to help, I've been doing them in the car on the way to work for the last couple of weeks and have started to see a difference.

Exfoliate to get rid of the dead skin. I make my own scrub with coconut oil and sugar. Then I use Superdrug Naturally Radiant glycolic acid and serum morning and night, it's dead cheap and my skins never been better. And Almond oil for removing makeup and under eyes at night. It helps with the wrinkles and black rings.

DaveHedgehogSpudgun · 17/11/2019 20:25

Oooh also if it helps, I'm 36 (but honestly think people would see me and guess older.)

Went out with my sister on v rare night out and bumped into her friend. Dsis says to her friend "guess who's the oldest sister" (it is her by a few years) and they said me. Shock She bloody harped on about that all night and by the end I wanted to cry!

I'm not sold on micellar water, my skin would look dull/grey if that's all I used to cleanse, perhaps use it as a 2nd cleanse or to freshen up in the morning?
I'd nip to superdrug and buy most of the naturally radiant range. Particularly the hot cloth cleanser (Liz Earl dupe) the glycolic toner mentioned up thread (pixi woo dupe) & the radiance balm (Clarins flash balm dupe) & whatever they've got for under eyes. You'd get change from £15.
I've used cleansing gadgets before, I'm not overly convinced but if you fancy one you can get the FOREO luna play for about £25 on Amazon. I think it's gentler than clarisonic and obviously much cheaper. I'd go for a good going over with the hot cloth first though & see where you are.
I'd also get the ordinarys caffeine eye treatment £5ish.
Use all that for a month and then re evaluate what's working for you.

I had the same with my sis when my DC were young she was yet to have hers. She's a couple of years older. Over a decade on and she's never let it drop.

However, last summer the barman at the hotel we were staying asked what my mum would like to drink. I replied she was still in her room and he pointed at my sis. Now I can smile every time she brings up being the looks younger sister. It'd be too cruel to say anything.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 17/11/2019 20:52

Water (loads of it).
You can add a slice of lemon - old tip but it works .

Massage your cleanser upwards into your skin and your moisturiser

And do face exercises Grin . You can reach your tongue out as far as you can (the next day you feel it !) in front of the mirror (or the DC to make them laugh )

ItsAHardKn0ckLife1 · 17/11/2019 20:58

Lots of water, vitamin c serum and a daily fake tan.

A daily zinc & vit c supplement might also help and boost your immune system too.

DaveHedgehogSpudgun · 17/11/2019 21:37

Thanks @Darkrainbow I think from what you and others have said, a trip to Superdrug is definitely in order.

@RippleEffects I love that you have the knowledge the barman thought your Dsis was your MUM, yet you were kind enough not to say anything.

Hello,
To help with water I got a 1litre bottle and I give myself a taget to drink 1l by 12pm and 1l by 4pm and that makes it manageable.

I love a tinted moisturiser- I prefer the garnier one over the dove but the best one, if you can splash out a bit, is the skinny tan moisturiser. It’s got a pump action and is white.

If you have an 11 type line Frownies can be good. Not sexy in any way but I use them in the run up to a big event.

I do have a cheap version of a Nu-face electronic thing (about £20 on amazon) and I am sure it does make me look younger. It could just be the massage from it. It has a 15 min timer and I find it relaxing.

I have also aged in reverse - I peaked at 38 when my youngest was about 4. By then I had unbroken sleep and time to look after myself better.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 17/11/2019 23:10

I bought a tiny roller thing with small spikes on it (bargain from TKMaxx £4.99 ) it has sat in my bathroom for weeks /months .

I read a few articles , thought , 'okay this isn't micro-needling ' because it doesn't puncture the skin, but not been brave enough to use it properly .

I think the idea is to stimulate collagen rather than making holes like when you aerate the lawn Wink

AnuvvaMuvva · 17/11/2019 23:36

Also do an absolute amazing hot-cloth cleanser and a rose oil moisturiser. Just get those. Buying both will cost you about £8, total. I'm using them and I'm TRANSFORMED. My cousin recommended them to me.

Apileofballyhoo · 18/11/2019 00:17

I was looking at the Rose moisturiser Anuvva. Wish I'd bought it now!

LellyMcKelly · 18/11/2019 01:04

You have three young children, and they’ve been poorly for weeks. You look like that because you are absolutely knackered. This is probably impossible for you at the minute, but the very best thing you can do for your looks is a couple of nights of unbroken sleep. All the treatments can come later, but if you can get someone to take over for a few nights so you can get quality, unbroken sleep, you will look and feel like a different person.

managedmis · 18/11/2019 02:05

Water (as you know from this thread!)
Lots of moisturiser
Fake tan - game changer, really is
How's your diet? Try and get the veg in there

managedmis · 18/11/2019 02:07

If you can't afford a hot cloth cleanser set just use your regular moisturiser and a flannel cloth dipped in hot water. Smear face in moisturiser, wait five mins, smooth off with the wet flannel. Ahhhhhhh

DaveHedgehogSpudgun · 18/11/2019 13:55

Fab suggestions and loads of things I never thought of. It made me remember I have an unopened brand new bottle of Pixi Rose tonic which is meant to be like a nourishing tonic.

It's filling me with relief everyone saying about the lack of sleep being a factor to be honest, because at least then there is an excuse for it and hopefully one that will improve.

I keep wondering about those derma rollers too!

Oh and @thetwinkletoescollective you just reminded me that I have a box of frownies knocking around somewhere! Totally forgot about them.

Uptonogoodtoo · 18/11/2019 15:14

Op. It comes back honestly it does.
But any chance you get sleep or just rest. Drink lots if hot lemon water throughout the day. And use any decent facial oil and massage into your face morning and night. Start with the little things and then add something new each week.

Uptonogoodtoo · 18/11/2019 15:15

Also the rapid lash for brows and eyebrows. Use them every night and in about 8 weeks your lashes and eyebrows look fuller and healthy.

brassbrass · 18/11/2019 15:25

Water obvs. Be careful with adding lemon or apple cider vinegar though as this rots tooth enamel. So you may end up with dewy skin and no teeth 🤣

Red/blue light therapy device. I have an old clunky one but lots of new models have come out. 15 minutes everyday. Clears skin and boosts collagen.

What do the apple cider vinegar tablets and glycolic toner actually do to the skin? What difference has it made please as they sound interesting.

peaceanddove · 18/11/2019 15:52

Does your budget stretch to a brow shape and tint, and lash tint and perm? Will make your eyes look awake even if you feel like a zombie. Add in an undereye brightener and a tinted lip balm and you'll give your face a much brighter look in just a few seconds.

Try sleeping with a silk or satin pillowcase, stops you getting sleep creases and keeps your hair smooth.

Muminabun · 20/11/2019 11:57

Dave I really rate and love the Superdrug radiance range and it is often on special offer. I also love Aldi lacura range. I have just tried the Q10 serum and it smellsNice and glides on and smooths out nicely the ingredient list is not bad at all. I am not convinced that scrubbing does much except encourage more oil to clog pores I prefer masks and double cleansing.

DaveHedgehogSpudgun · 20/11/2019 13:08

I think I should double cleanse. Sorry to sound clueless but do you literally go over twice with the same cleanse product?

Going to Aldi later and think I will have to attack the Lacura section!!

Any tips on undereye puffiness that work for you guys? Cold teaspoons and the usual old wives tales stuff don't work.

We are getting better in our house after weeks of illness but my twins seems to think morning time is ten to five now rather than their previous 7am and I'm finding this increasing hard to pull back to how they previously were.

OP posts:
inwood · 20/11/2019 13:18

Sleep! I remember looking in the mirror with eye bags down to my knees, droopy eyelids, the lot. The only thing that fixed it was getting Dts sleeping again. The first year they were sick from October to January. It was brutal. But it does get better!
