Hi All
I am in the early stages of planning and researching as I would like to open my own wedding dress boutique. I would really appreciate any suggestions and feedback you may have in terms of your positive and negative experiences, how you chose the boutique you bought from, how far you travelled/would travel to buy your dress and what your budget was.
Thank you in advance!

I would stay local because you need to have fittings etc. I had a budget of 2k and spent 1.8k on my dress.
The boutique I chose I loved as it was very pretty and always had quite different (what I now know were designer) dresses.

I had two requirements for my dress and they were;

  1. I didn’t want to “hear” my dress (no swish swishing)
  2. I wanted to be able to pee on my own,

Good luck OP

Make sure you have access to a really expert seamstress for alterations to dresses.
That was a huge factor in our DD dress purchase .
Good luck in your new venture .

I looked at styles online and identified a few designers I liked and then looked for boutiques locally that stocked those designers so I would say having a good stock of designers will help.

Second PP regards to alterations, ideally you need a seamstress who can work from your boutique which will make life easier for your brides.

I would also agree with staying local, I probably would have travelled up to a hour away for the right dress BUT I wouldn’t really have wanted to iykwim, more local the better.

I spent £1,400 on mine which was max budget for me.

I went to a boutique that had a certain brand i wanted as mine had blue trim around the neckline and the train was blue -
I loved mine! It was different because if the navy blue but still very wedding dress like

I went to a small independent wedding dress shop in the city centre so about 10miles from our house, I wanted a small friendly independent place rather than a huge retailer with friendly approachable staff as I knew I didn’t want a traditional wedding dress. I ended up with a gold silk bridesmaid dress which was perfect for me. I didn’t have a budget but knew I didn’t need want to spend a fortune on a wedding dress to wear for one day.

I went to one that had samples from designers as I didn’t want to spend a ridiculous amount. Was still £600.

If the shop had got a second hand rail I would happily have looked at what was available. This could be something you could consider?
