Dealing with dry skin when I don't like the feel of cream

Just that really. I get awful dry skin in the winter, but I don't generally moisturise because I don't like the feel of ream on my skin. It's like I can still feel the cream on my skin after rubbing it in.

Any solutions?

First of all, I would make sure that you're drinking plenty of water. Loads of people are chronically dehydrated and it's hell on your skin. Secondly, try almond oil at night or find a cream you can live with. Dryness is horrible for your skin and very damaging. You'll age far before your time.

Oil in baths Smile

Nadine Baggott did a post on this on her blog recently, she recommended some spray on moisturisers and a bunch of other non sticky ones.

I get where you are coming from.
I don't like the stickyness and greasyness especially under clothes
I was given a dove body butter that sunk in almost immediately and wasn't sticky/tacky/greasy at all.

Gentle exfoliating is the first step for me dealing with dry skin. I use a hot cloth cleanser in the shower with a flannel and it gently gets rid of dry flakes. I'm also pretty poor at moisturising, but if I do I like the Aldi Q10 day cream which is super light and not greasy or sticky.

I use a thick face cream on my body as it soaks in almost instantly rather than leaving a residue. I use the Lidl hand cream with beeswax on my hands for the same reasons.

I like bath oils like oilatum but find I need to shower/ rinse before drying or just end up with an oily towel that needs boilwashing to get shot of the oil.

I don't get on with E45 or body moisturisers.

As PP's have suggested exfoliating helps 1 whether it's using an exfoliant or shower mit. Trying to get moisturiser to soak in through layers if dead skin is a challenge.

Moisturizing as soon as i've dried after a bath/ shower is a good time for me as I find that moisturiser soaks in quicker to softened skin.

Banana boat aloe vera after sun gel might fit the bill?

Branster · 14/11/2019 21:18

Do you mean the skin on your body? There are a few moisturising shower gels, I never used them but I think standard brands like Nivea, Imperial Leather etc do them.
It’s a good idea to exfoliate once a week as well.

Or do you mean cream for your face? In which case you could apply hydrating cream (or an oil) to face, wash hands, wait 10-15 min then blot with a tissue or damp face cloth. Or use a hydrating mask a few times a week. Or use a water based spray toner a few times a day (could be as simple as rose water or any hydrosol product). Don’t be tempted by hyaluronic acid if your skin is already dry and you live in a dry climate. Same with glycerine, it needs a hydrating (wet) base to work. Aloe Vera is the same in that it can actually be drying if there’s no moisture as a second ingredient.

Oh wow! I didn't realize other people actually battled with this too! I have always heard that you must moisturize blah blah... I REALLY hate anything cold and wet on my skin when it is dry.(moisturisor, sun cream, face paint, rain etc etc)

I love the body shop shower scrubs - the one I stocked up on is now discontinued, but am using their new version which is not bad - almond milk and honey, specifically for dry skin. It exfoliates while actually leaving moisture behind! It is exceptionally expensive in the country I live, so I only use it once a month, but my skin always feels the best it ever does after this Smile

A cheaper trick (for me!) - wash with baby oil. Not sure how hygienic this is, but putting it on a body puff after washing myself means that I don't mind the oil on my skin as I am technically still wet in the shower!

Face - blue tin Nivea immediately when I get out of the shower. Don't leave it more than 1 min because you get that 'yuck' of cold wet again!!!

I make my my own solid moisturising bars, they're ace and totally natural/packaging free. Very easy to do.

AllDaySnacker · 20/11/2019 09:09

@ClownsandCowboys I’ve just discovered that Bio-oil do a gel - it’s not as greasy as the name sounds, and doesn’t feel tacky.

Eat good oil containing foods like avocado, walnuts, olives and fish.

Muminabun · 20/11/2019 11:39

A little privacy can you share your recipe please?

ClientListQueen · 21/11/2019 07:08

For the body, sanctuary wet skin moisturiser. Slap on wet skin in shower, towel dry. I hate the feeling of being sticky and love this stuff
